Default Magnification of scope on .222 remington

The gun is a skinny barreled Remington model 7. Currently has a 6x leupold just wondering what you guys would recommend for gopher at 200 yards or so.

I just sold a 222 a couple of months ago to fund my upcoming 22-250. I had a Zeiss 4.5-14x44mm on it and nothing escaped your view. I love the low end for the up close stuff but the ability to crank it up to 14 when you want to reach out and touch 'em is awsome. Just my opinion but stay away from the big SOB's like the Bushnell Elite 3200 8-32. I had one but found that it was too high powered for most work. Having said that, if you find that you can clearly make out a gopher head at 200 with your 6 power, that is all that you need. You don't need to be able to see his eye colour to drop him. Unless you are shooting over a kilometer away you don't need a 25 power scope. Consider this; Rob Furlong (former Edmonton based PPCLI Sniper) made his record shot of 2430m with a leupold 4-16 power scope.

I like 3-9X scopes on my short range varmint rifles, and the .222 is my "working gun" for everything, besides a 22 for gophers or an extreme long range rifle for coyotes , the .222 is always there as well - with a 3-9X on it.

What is ballpark pricing on a scope like that zeiss?
If it is out of my price range i might be looking at a Bushnell elite 3200 or 4200 with a magnification of 4-12 or 4-16 something along those lines.

I'm not certain, but if you go to Clay's sight at Prophet River you may find decent prices there.

I've owned many over the years, but the one i have always kept is a 1969 vintage C.I.L. 900 ( Anschutz 54 action) with the original barrel.
Round count is , um, high!
I quit shooting targets with it about 25 years ago!
I zero it every year or two, but that's it.
other than that Ii just shoot it, and have used it for beavers, coyotes, woodchucks . gophers, coons, pretty well anything called a varmint or fur bearer!

Clay is selling the Elite 3200 3-9x40 for $199, and he like most dealers, is seling the Conquest 3-9x40 for under $500.
Dantes Sports, is selling the Elite 3200 5-15x40 for $277.

I have a 4X12 on my 222. It seems to offer enough magnification for gophers out to about 225 - 250 yards or so, farther than that the little buggers get pretty small.
