Sub 4 pound sheep gun
For all you lightweight nuts, this could be the lightest sheep gun yet. Not completed yet, the parts weigh 3 pounds 15 ounces and there's still some weight to come off. It should finish arounf 3 3/4 pounds.......yikes.
Chambered in 6.5 Grendel.

Looks like a feller I know at Corlanes....is that AJ?
Nice light rifle, don't know if I'd want it in a .300 magnum though! You'd need a big rubber boot around the scope, and you'd probably still get whiplash.

I am thinking to get that type of weight, they are using a quad slabbed Rem mod 7 action, 18.5 barrell, and a blind mag.It will be a real nice rig in the 6.5
just wonder about the price.

Mini Mauser action.....I think it's a Rimrock stock but could be mistaken on that one. Not sure on the barrel.

Nope, no flutes. Don't think there is enough metal to flute it.

I was sure I had seen that concept before.I think the stock is a MPI not a rimrock.

Ya, now that you mention it, I think you are right. Saw too many guns the past two days. Ya, this one is basically a 6.5x39.

Crazy light!! Not sure what my Model 7 will end up weighin but its definitly not going to be a super-lightweight. Seems like it would be a fun project though!

My model 7 ended up at 4lbs, 10oz, naked. Hard to imagine shaving, off another pound.

Go handle a mini mauser - your wish will go away in a hurry.

Not to hi-jack the thread because that is crazy light but really does weight make that much of a difference? I am currently not a sheep hunter but I just finished owning a sako a7 and I found then gun too light. What does 3 lbs difference mean I know when your packing in ever ounce adds up but 3 lbs is so little. I would also assume that with a barrel so short and thin you would lose velocity, accuracy and I'm sure after one shot the gun POI will change greatly from the heat.

mini mauser as in cz 527 type?
i like the concept, i think a single shot would work too, and another shorty like a 6-dasher but the grendel sounds like perfect choice too

Three pounds here and three pounds there; starts to add up after awhile. I don't think you would want to build a 4#er in 300WSM or even 270WSM.

The stock design isn't my cup of tea, but this one turned out OK.

Chuck that one looks like a shortened full size mauser - not quite the typical interarms, charles daly, zastava, remington 799 mini mauser. This is much closer to the ones I have seen and handled.

Love the gun above but the OP's is UGLY! I think a five pound gun built with class is better then a sub 4pound gun built lightly. I''ve never been a huge fan of ultrlightweight guns, however I'd love a RMR sheep gun. 5pds to me is the min, anything under feels like a BB gun. Mike W also made a good point on barrel heat, I know we all proud ourselves on being one shot hunters but there are those times when a few more are need due to poor shot placement or an exceptionally tough animal (we've all encoutnered at least one of thos which just won't go down). Neat idea's though I'm sure they'll find a market for it.

Yup, it's definitely not pretty to look at and it's very utilitarian but I guess as long as its accurate and functional, that's all you really need from a mountain rifle. They are building this one for a customer and I doubt you'll see many of them go out the door but it is pretty cool to see just how light you can get a rifle down to. I personally prefer something right around six pounds but I can see the appeal of a sub four pound rifle that for sure. Each to their own.

Nice 7rem mag you had built. Is it powder coated, teflon coated or cerkoted?
Do you have a final weight?

Thanks. Internal, tight tolerance pieces are all teflon coated and external pieces are powder coated. It's right around 7 pounds. I definitely wasn't looking for a lightweight build on it. The 270WSM I had built comes in right around 6 pounds now.
