Trapping by rivers/lakes

I was wondering if you are trapping on private land that borders a river or lake, does this entitle you to trap in the river or lake. And if so how far in.

SRD told me we could not trap or shoot beaver on the river because it is public not private land. The river has private land along both sides. The F&W officer said we could only trap to the property line and that could be the high water line or low water line depending when the property was purchased. He did mention that public perception (dead beaver in traps) would not be very good and that is a major problem these days. Also when the river is frozen there is a lot of snowmobile traffic, too risky to have sets out because of theft or damage. My wife and I did manage to harvest 35 beaver after ice off, all on private land. Hope this helps.

Thanks Doug that does help. So how did you trap those beavers, with sets on the edge of the water and if so how do you set them up. I am new to trapping and any info would be helpfull.
