What's a moose head mount gonna cost me, and how do I get it home from the taxidermist in Alberta?

If I'm lucky enough to get the Mother of All Moose, I'm going to want to get that puppy mounted. I have no idea what it costs, how long it takes to get done, and how do I get it shipped back to Florida? Any ideas?

a buddy had his done in lethbridge 5 yrs ago. cost him $2700; he transported it in a 6x12 enclosed trailer.

My taxidermist said last year, shoulder moose mount 1800-2000. Around 2-4 months from the time you bring it to him to finished. No idea on getting it back to you for price.

Hey, not an expert in the questions by far - but if I recall correctly, there are export requirements for hides/mounts, etc. - forms online that need to be completed, etc. Especially for US/international border. As pointed out, your outfitter should have lots of details.

We've had luck with Lone Wolf Taxidermy in Spruce Grove - great job last year on my son's mulie mount. I'm sure they would also have lots of info - and it's generally on your trip route. Wide range of completion time - often depending on how early in the season you get it in - towards the end of the season will be a longer wait usually.

Five years ago we had my wife's moose mounted and shipped back to NC. The shipping was $700.00 which I thought was very reasonable. The stuffer had built a nice crate for it out of 2x4 and plywood. Seems like the mount was about $1500.00. US dollars.

Correct me if I'm wrong But are you not driving up with your truck ?

My recommendation for that scenario is ditch coolers bring up a 6" chest freezer. with either a small generator and locking cable to secure it in the back of your truck. or an extension cord to plug it in if your staying overnight in motels.
This will fit a mostly boned out moose and a Cape with no issues.

Hopefully guide is good at capeing Might even be capable of turning the lips and ears.

For the rack and skull plate or euro mount just make sure all meat brain and optical matter plus cranial membrane is removed and wrap in plastic.
A decent cordless reciprocating saw works great for this far safer and precise compared to a chain saw.
