Default Lotteries and raffles

I see STARS lottery is launching....1 ticket for $30, 50 tickets for $450 and levels in between. I have always supported the STARS lottery but this new trend, whether it be STARS, Oilers 50/50, or even some raffles posted here have me feeling the odds are stacked in favour of the wealthier.

I know you could always buy as much as you wanted, but this seems like a kick in the gut.

Just wish it was a level playing field or just wish I was rich!

You only need 1 ticket to win

The odds on these smaller lotteries like STARS and the Children's Hospital give you much better odds than say lotto 640 where millions are sold. They also support a local cause that is solid. I was deeply involved in these fundraisers and they are honest and true. Charities also have to be more and more creative raising needed funds. I also am rather annoyed by anyone who dices fundraisers for causes like this in these times when fundraising dollars for charities are down.

I don't care if I win or not. Stars airlifted a very good friend from west of Cochrane to Foothills Hospital, saving his life and one day might just do the same for me or a member of my family.

Oh, don't get me wrong....I will buy a STARS ticket....their creativity you speak of is their downfall.

Stars saved my daughter’s life. My tickets are just considered a donation.

Yup. Buddy was at a mall in Lethbridge with friends and they walked past a booth selling the hospital lottery tickets. Everyone else had bought tickets but them. They badgered them about it being for charity and his wife relented and bought a single ticket.

They won the house.

Can win if you don’t play. Can’t lose money if you don’t play.

Comes down to can you afford one ticket or not.

I regard it as selfish to focus on winning and prizes. I donate money to (what I believe are) worthwhile causes, which STARS certainly is. Any prize given to anybody is merely a bonus for that person.

We won a Jeep Sahara years back. Missed a 750,000 payout by one draw…. Doh! We had acquired 3 tickets, it can happen and a good cause for sure.

Agree with others. It's a donation. If I'll win, then I'll be glad. If not, no worries.

I only buy one ticket per lottery and I NEVER WIN.

I can't say that anymore when I won a Beretta A350 Extrema on an AHEIA raffle.

I have always for so long supported Stars and Childrens Hospital Lotteries. Never expect to win and never have. Also support Calgary Humane Society. When I go for groceries food bank gets a good bag.
Usually the only time I do raffles is to support local community sports teams. Well, I did one from AOF. It was for the Alberta BowHunters Association, didn't expect anything other than a donation to the Association. Surprise, surprise, got a call one day and I had won the top prize of 2 days and 3 nights stay for Sturgeon fishing. When funds allow, I try to give. If I can I will support cause ya never know. Could be you, a loved one or a friend that needs the services.
