Default Aluminum ammo

What are your thoughts on aluminum ammo in a blowback action carbine? Just read some info about potential hazards and had never heard of that before. Anyone here have firsthand experience?

I avoid all steel and aluminum case ammo in my semis autos. Steel is lacquered to help with cycling but the theory is since it’s steel on steel you risk damaging your chamber and bolt. Aluminum is obviously softer than steel but I avoid shooting it as it’s an attempt to make a product cheaper than brass but I almost never find aluminum cased ammo cheaper than brass case and I’d I do it’s some surplus Russian or Chinese crap. Probably nothing wrong with it but I prefer brass so that’s what I go with.

Steel will also wear your extractor much faster. No bueno. As far as aluminum, you can have extraction issues as well, for lack of a better description it can get sticky, particularly as your range session extends and the chamber and barrel get hot. The only issues I've had were with extraction, nothing catastrophic.

When a cartridge is fired, the brass stretches and seals the chamber. So if you mess with that, you can have all kinds of problems. Carbine = longer barrel = more pressure = amplified problems.

Right up there with shooting someone else’s reloads. You might get away with it, but you might not.
