Default Your Pick for Best Western Movie

Hello everyone,

Well, another hunting season is in the books, back to winter and lots of time to watch movies.

So I would like to know your favorite Western of all time and why? I know it's hard because there are so many great ones to pick from and to single one out is tough!

My favorite Western is One-Eyed Jacks staring Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Ben Johnson, and Slim Pickings.

One-Eyed Jacks is the only movie that Marlon Brando starred in, produced, and directed. It has everything going for it that you would expect in a great western to include the good guy vs. the bad guy with a twist, gunfighting, fighting, romance/love, and great acting.

This decision was not an easy one to make because I am a huge western fan. Sure like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Errol Flynn, and many others. For me, it was a tossup between One-Eyed Jacks, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, The Searchers, Lonesome Dove and Jeremiah Johnson.

If you are a western movie fan and have not seen One-Eyed Jacks I highly recommend it with two thumbs way up!

Cheers N40

LMAO Yah great movie hey? Like I said it's really tough to single one out, but as you saw I mentioned Lonesome Dove as one of my top picks.

When I selected One-Eyes Jacks I felt like I was cheating on John Wayne lol

There are a lot of good ones but I still think I like The Outlaw Josey Wales the best myself. I'd say Unforgiven is 2nd, as mentioned previously because of it's filming location partially, for me.

Excellent book, worthy of a Pulitzer.
Blazing Saddles uncut version should be in a category of it's own really.

I never understood why Unforgiven was so popular. Seemed almost cheesy. Cliche. Sorry fellas. I mean no disrespect.

All the others of course the classics, Good, Bad…, Josey Wales, etc.

How the West was Won not mentioned yet.

"I don't deserve this, to die like this, I was building a house"

"Deserves got nothing to do with it"

A great movie that's for sure!

I think it’s one of the least cheesy. They joke about masturbation, show pretty accurate deaths (shooting a guy on the crapper, gut shooting a guy and him dying slowly).
No shooting a guy through the eye with a pistol at 100 yards with both of you galloping on horses.

I love all the movies mentioned so far but still think unforgiven belongs

Anywhoo to each their own

I like just about all westerns, but here is my top 5:
Outlaw Josey Wales
Two Mules for Sister Sarah
Tombstone
Silverado (John Cleese as an old west sheriff!)
Open Range
And of course John Wayne gets honorable mentions.
