Default Heading out for rabbits

Going to attempt a rabbit hunt for the first time. Plan on taking a .22 with me. A few questions
Does bullet grain matter? I have a good variety for the gopher patch and my 10/22 eats anything.
What about using a 20 ga shotgun? What type of shells should be used?
Thanks in advance

If you don't have trained dogs, the likelihood of a hare being within range of a shotgun is minuscule.

I'd imagine that spot and stalk with your .22 should put a few bunnies in the game bag, provided that you find an area which holds some quarry.

Look up Speckle55's posts on the subject.

#4 should suffice with a modified choke.

Any hollow point to the head works great. I’m going to use y 17 hmr for a little more range

Bunny hunting... I love eating them but dang! I can’t find them, even in bush that’s full of the critters.

I'm waiting on a fresh snow. Head out a couple days later & look for trails etc.
Then walk and set snares.

Great advice and so simple. I think I'm just looking for a reason to go walk some bush. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any snow in the foreseeable future

I guess knocking on doors for permission and searching for a spot to hunt will be the first order of business.

I've been on the lookout for signs of rabbit every time i'm out in the bush for any reason. I have yet to find areas that seem to show promising amounts of tracks and turds, always just the odd one here and there.

I suck at rabbit hunting lol. My property is chalk full of them. I snare more than I can eat, but every time I go out to shoot one I can't find them for the life of me. I am jealous of guys like speckle 55 who seem to have the bunnies dialed in...
