Default Selling wolves

Hi. We were fortunate to trap 4 wolves in the last 2 weeks. Two of which were infested with shoulder mites. The other two have really nice fur. I have a couple of people that are interested in buying them to be made into rugs. I am wondering what kind of a price I should be asking for them. I have never sold them this way before. Thanks

You can only sell them to a person with a fur buyers license. You can get them tanned and sell them after they have been processed to the general public.

Default Wolf Prices

If you know they want their wolves rugged, find a taxidermist and get them done, then add that to the price of the wolf. This way they don't need a fur buyers licence and your not wasting money on something the buyer doesn't want. I think for the amount of work put in to catch and flesh a wolf you should be asking $500 to $1000 depending on the wolf. that is my opinion and it is higher then they average at the auction for sure, but how many high quality wolves make it to the auction? If I am only going to get $200 to $300 for a wolf I'll tan it and hang it on the wall at home.

In Saskatchewan we can sell our untanned fur to anyone. The person buying the untanned fur has to acquire a permit from any Saskatchewan Environment Office.

NAFA auction results:

April 2016 - Average $143.28 Top $521.00

May/June 2016 - Average $189.15. Top $640.68

On kijiji I just saw a tanned black wolf for $400 and a grey for $600.

Tanning cost around $250.

I would take them to a fur buyer and see what he'd offer and decide on a price from that.
