Went out to Pigeon Lake on Thursday in all the blustery wind and rain. It was like a hurricane out there! When we arrived to the parking lot it was full of conservation officer trucks. Probably 20 trucks. There must have been ten conservation officer boats out on the lake driving around in a line. Must be on water training for the new recruits. We launched at the provincial park where a couple guys were casting off the dock. One caught a pike when we were dumping the boat. Headed out to the calmer side of the lake but no fish. So into the wind we go to find some fish. We found a mid lake hump that held some fish. First off we drop the bottom bouncers and have two fish before we get over the hump. Then we blow past the hump. Tried slow trolling back over hump but super difficult with the wind and big waves. Still manage to hook another walleye. Well they are here. So her throw the anchor on the wind blown side of the hump and it thankfully hooks in some rocks so that we're situated right on the hump. Only had to re-position a couple times after being blown off but otherwise it was fish on! Fish were hitting smaller lure type reaction baits best. Small Cicada's jigged off bottom back to the boat, flutter spoons, Big Hammer Swimbaits, and Rapala ratln rap. Silver was the hot ticket color. Ended up tagging a couple walleye in the Class B size range. Most fish were 50-55cm. Also caught quite a few pike by catch fishing the same way as we were for the walleye. The wind started to die in the evening and the fishing really began to pick up, fish every cast basically. So we took off home cause it was getting too easy, haha! The father in law wanted to make it to the restaurant before it closed actually. So here are a few pics. Video to come once I have it edited and loaded.
funny you should mention that about co's. On opening day at wab it was EXTREMELY windy and yeehaw and i saw the same thing with about a dozen boats cruising in a line, with parking lot full of fish and game trucks.
i see you remembered to get the cheeks from those wallies you filleted. nice looking fish fry.
