Default Induction Cookware

Having only the Home Hardware, Walmart and good ol' CT locally, to purchase from, what would the hoi poloi recommend for cookware on an induction stove top. Some of the brands available are: Kitchen Aid, Lagostina, Kuraidori and whatever Wally is peddling. Would really appreciate some help, with this..Ladies, would like to hear from you,as well, if your guy lets you on site.

Another question... with the heating element turned on, do these stoves consume power, without a conductor on its surface.....

They shouldn't, ours alarms if the conductor is removed from the surface and will shut off within ~15 seconds if the conductor is not put back on.

DO NOT buy pots/pans until you have your oven. That way you can go home immediately and check that they work on your oven. We did the magnet thing at the stores, and some of them (even though they said induction safe, and were magnetic) don't work. Who knows why.

OH.. And absolutely make sure they are non-stick pans/pots. The induction stoves take awhile to get used to, and you will burn stuff as the temperature gets hot fast.

Copper pots are only the real way to go, they work way better than any other we have tried.

Default Induction pots

I know you want to shop locally but.... If you could get to calgary there's a restaurant supply outfit called Russel food Equipment. They've dot a nice line of stainless pots that are induction friendly and the price is good.

I have an induction stove and love it. It's so hard to get used to how slow other stoves are. Back on topic, I picked up a really nice set of pans at the Bay 60% off, so it's a great place to check. They are Henkles and I like them a lot. Lots of cookware now has a symbol on it to show if they are induction capable. I used the magnet on some old pots and so far it has always worked. Your stove uses magnets to heat so not sure why you would see the difference unless there is lots of paint or a layer in the base you can't see that isn't magnetic. Lots of pans have an aluminum core and that can cause problems.

We have had good luck with any pans magnetic. Enjoy the temp control kicks butt.
