I paid $244.99 for 8lbs, that's $30.62 for 1lb @ Flys Etc. in High River. So yes that is approx. 30% lower.

Expensive Varget is better than no Varget. We live in a supply and demand world. I bought 2 lbs of it to top off my 8lber and got 2lbs of H4831 as well.

Default P and D

Yes, they are expensive on some things and cheaper on others! Nosler bullets can be up to 8 bucks cheaper there! Powder is in such short supply they probably figure they can get away with it. The other day I was searching for some Hornady 180 grain Spire Points, which they usually stock but were out.
They made me ''pay up front'' for a couple of boxes which were at their supplier. I got a bag of 7mm Mag unprimed 3 bucks cheaper than Cabela's. Their Leupold mounts are 10 bucks cheaper than Cabela's. So, it depends on what you're after. They have certainly rescued me a few times!

How is the service at P&D? I do not mind paying extra for competent knowledgeable sales people and a willingness to help and special order stuff.

Staff seems fine --- good service. Sept 12 at 1030 when I picked up some Varget, the clerk said they were down to about 30 lbs from the 90 they stocked earlier in the week.
