Default Shooting Bench

The wife is tired of me using her picnic table so its time to either buy a shooting bench or build one. Has anybody got plans on building one? Would like to have my son build one in shop class preferably.
Thanks

been tossing the idea around myself.
i was thinking it should be a tall enough to stand up beside it. my unscientific opinionated data seems like the recoil when sitting seems to be worse than standing.
that or maybe a truck hood on three legs..

If your not set on making one... i do believe Caldwell makes a nice sturdy portable bench. Ive been thinking of buying one.

There was a home made on built on a trailer in the BUY SELL i seen not too long ago.

Default Portable shooting bench

Folding "trade show table" legs and a piece of 1" plywood works.

I built 6 new ones for our club...accomodates both right and left handed shooters too. All 2x6 construction and I used 3" deck screws to put it together.
Good and solid. I got some pics around here someplace....probably get you the materials list too if interested.

That would be appreciated. Shooting today off picnic table. I like to sit and be comfortable. With the picnic table I feel like I'm bent over like a dog humpen a football. Kid didn't like it to much after he opened his eyebrow up. Ouch .

Here's a pic of one of the benches...almost finished...just a few pieces to put on the top outer edges. I'm gonna see if I can find my project book...it has all the exact measurements. It's a 4 ft x 4 ft square base. The center strip of the top is 48 " long by 17" wide (3 pcs of 2x6 with a small space between them...small enough to keep empty rimfire cases out ) The seats are on the corners. The brace for the seats (underneath ) are 18" tall....the 1 1/2 " thick seat goes ON TOP for a total height of 19 " from the ground. The outter edges of the top(not boarded in yet) need 3 pcs of 2x6 on each side of that center strip. These will be tapered in on a slant on both sides towards the rear. This is just what I can recall off the top of the old melon.....more to follow...likely tomorrow night.

I bought some folding legs from Home Depot and cut the top out of a piece of 7/8. Sheet of scrap of plywood. For $18 it works great it's not the most sturdy bench but its portable and I can shoot dime size groups from it.

Shortmag,
Don't go out of your way on my account. I found plans when i googled shooting benches that look much the same. By the time the kid makes it at school, the snow should be gone. I hope.

Ok man...no prob.

..here's a pic of one of the old benches that was replaced. You can see how the top was finished off....outer piece is cut square and they're 22 1/2 inches long. ...the next piece will be about 5 inches longer and the next one after that will also be about 5 inches longer again...these will be trimmed off on an angle.
Come in 13 1/2 " from the rear of the top and make a mark....next draw a line from THAT mark...to the front inside corner, of your outside piece....this is how you'll trim those 5 inch longer pieces off. Confused yet

this pic shows the basic frame before the top and the seat rail is installed. The front section is also 4 ft across and 18 inches wide. (( when your making this top section of frame, it doesn't matter if you keep the long boards inside or the shorter ones inside to make your frame. Don't forget...your building a bench, not a piano. No final tuning will be needed

Here's one I built on the weekend. Used all pressure treated wood and composite deck boards for the top. Didn't use any plans. Just looked at a few on line and winged it from there. Bench height is 32". Seat is 20".
Cheers.

We just finished several at SPFGA with block bases and cement tops. The top weighs about 350 lbs. You'd be proud to shoot from one
