Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Hard to really tell until the velvet is gone, makes them look bigger than they are. Don't matter, if you like him, take him.

Nope, it's too early. Season's closed. However, on day one...I'd take that buck, cause with my luck, he's as good as it's gonna get.

op, what are you looking for? to me that deer appears a little young yet. id let him grow if i had a good look at him. of course i have killed the odd one like that when you kick them out of the weeds and they are jetting out giving you a fraction of a second to decide. i hate walking up to those ones. makes me wish i was better at first aid....

Once the season opened the first time he walks by he would be on the wall and in the freezer. He's a beauty

Bambi, I'm not a bow hunter, but here's my take... If a method of hunting is a great deal more difficult, then it stands to reason that if you want to put something on the wall every few years, you might go for something a little more modest/attainable. If I hunter hard and put the time in, I could probably get within 500 yards of a B&C specimen every X number of years... but within 30 yards of one? not so often.
That's my understanding of the remark anyway.

I agree with you, and I hunt with a bow as well as the rifle.

i am a bowhunter. i know that a deer is exactly the same size regardless of what you killed him with. i just dont get the mindset that something is "bigger' or somehow better because you killed it with a different weapon.
i kinda get what you are saying.....but that reasoning is what has archery tags in danger of being put on draw right now.

LOL Well, I'm probably not the guy to argue the point. I'm a meat hunter. If the freezer is empty, the season end near, and it's a legal animal, I'm taking it.

fair enough. im not saying that archers are exactly wrong either by the way. i do find it ironic though that some of the guys that smack little mule bucks pretty regular are some of the guys squawking loudest about potential changes.

If he puts a smile on your face, take him!
I for one, would give him a couple of years more, I think his best years are still ahead of him , so I would let him walk ! You don't get monsters, by shooting good ones!

No it does not change the size of the deer. but why does pope and young have smaller sizes for entry then boone and crockett. It is more of a challenge with a bow. so i thing your definition of a trophy goes down.
