And that's the truth Cat.
I have a 223, 25,06, and a 7mm. all are the Liberty models built in 1976.
The 7mm is accurate, but the other two are scary accurate.
By brother and a buddy both have #1s in 220 Swift. and they are shooters.

I've had them in every available factory cartridge , and a few re-barrelled in non factory ones as well - every one except a 243 was a shooter and killer of things that walked!
My problem is I can't bring myself to camo great looking wood - maybe I'll look around for one with some plain wood and do it up!
Most of the time I just hunker in a blind or behind a hay bale 200 meters away from a bait....

Fast enough, yup!
The thing is , I think I have only missed one coyote where I couldn't get another follow up shot.
You can chamber another round pretty quick with a bit of practice.
Working a bait at 200 is no biggy for accuracy, it's the calling part where you are going to run into the problems , but if you are aware of the distance, it's still not a big thing.
If he's close and you miss, he'll run until he thinks it's save or you whistle,a d he figures he'll stop and look.
But no, I've never felt hampered with a single shot - actually on of my first coyote guns was a single shot bolt action in .222 Remington!:>)

Clearly you're not calling enough of them in at one time

I actually considered a single shot coyote rifle, but I have been present when two or three coyotes showed up at a time, and I wanted some quicker follow up shots for multiple animals.Prior to them becoming restricted,I used am AR-15 to shoot coyotes, and if they were not restricted,I might very well still be using a gun built on an AR platform.

When I'm down south I always hunt in tandem - two gunners, so multiples are not an issue.
Up here I rarely get the chance on two at one, and the one time I did , both went down - A coyote simply cannot outrun a 6.5X55 107 grainer if he's goin' in a straight line!!

"My problem is I can't bring myself to camo great looking wood"
Yep it is a dilemma. If I have good wood, I like to show it off.
For big game I very seldom need a second shot. That's just the way it is.
When calling coyotes. I have killed 4 on a stand more than once. Between calling them back and being confident with the rifle, it isn't as hard a one may think.

Crap, I NEVER worry about the second shot when hunting big game - I only worry about the first one!

Great looking rig Kale_M, considering the VTR myself in 243 but I'm wondering what you think about the Vortex Crossfire?

Since it's 'coyote season' now....
-LH M700 CDL .223
-trigger tuned
-bedded/floated in factory stock
-Gretan LW firing pin assembly
-VXIII 4.5-14x40 VHR in lapped Talley LW lows
Shoots 'almost as good' as a Tikka...

I really like the crossfire scope. Super clear and Bright. Mine has the fine duplex reticle and I really like it!
