i have one on my 7mm rem mag, not really sure if it i'd do it again !(actually the wife did if for me without my say so for a gift) Had problems with scope(bushnell elite 3200) and the trigger since(two broken pins , I believe),, and i think it's due to the changed recoil pattern! OH yeah its REALLY LOUD ! If you practice without ear plugs you will having a ring in your ears for hrs !

I've a muzzle brake on my ar15. For tactical shooting it's great as it speeds target acquisition on follow up shots. Down side it is noisy and it does present a larger visual signature.
Don't have a brake on any of my hunting rifles, don't shoot anything that is so heavy that I feel a need to reduce recoil. Besides the deer don't shoot back.

I had one put on my .300 when I switched over from a .243. It really helped with the kick and thus helped me not to flinch. Dropping the trigger poundage fixed the rest of my quirk. I find that it has as much kick as the .243, but is 5 times as loud. It came with a key so I could remove it if I want to.

I had a muzzle brake installed on a 7mm rem mag when I was about 19 to help with muzzle jump. The first time I pulled the trigger without hearing protection I did irreversible damage to my left ear. Also, when shooting prone or alongside brush, you get crap blowing back in your face. I would never get another one installed. Unless you're a serious long range shooter with heavy recoiling rifles and you are always going to wear hearing protection (plugs and muffs), I wouldn't even consider it. My ear is starting to hurt just thinking about that rifle.

We do quite a bit of long range shooting and I have one on my .30-.378 weatherby for recoil. It is IMPERATIVE that you use proper hearing protection!!! That thing is "make your nose bleed" loud. On the up side it shoots like a .243 recoil wise and I have gotten used to always haveing my ear plugs around my neck.

I have both the brake and Magna-ports I prefer the ports they look nicer and maintains a very flat barrel I can write this because I can't hear what I'm saying. I would go with a limbsaver at the opposite end of the Rifle

Does anyone have a Vais muzzle brake by Ron Bartlett? They claim to be the quietest around but how quiet are they? Reasonably priced at $245us and can be installed by any good gunsmith. They have them for every caliber from .17 to 50 BMG and diameters from .650" to 1.50".

The only reason i put one on my 7mm is because had it out bear hunting in the spring and didnt tape the barrel, well guess what i got mud kicked up from the quad tires in there. Had to cut my 1 3/4" off my barrel so i decided to try one! It is now one of the nicest shooting guns i own and have ever shot but like everybody is saying it is loud as $%@! That is the onlt reason i regret it is because it is so loud.

I got a screw on/off break for my 308 Norma, I thought for long sessions of load development, or for a day of rock shooting it would be good. Sweet to shoot, but make sure you have plugs at least if not muffs too!
When I hunt and fine tune sight in it's with the break off and the cap screwed on. I like having the option of on or off

Muzzel Break
Had on built for my 300 rem ultra mag at K.S Arms in Edmonton it works great they did a perfect job the break was 200 installed and 20 bucks for a thread protector in case i want to shoot the gun with out the break on it in my mind it was the best thing i ever did give them a ring 780 437 1090 i mean get it done and if you dont like it you can always take it off and shoot the gun regular again i found my ultra mag was loud to begin with and i is not much louder with the brake on but it is way easir to shoot and K.S is one of the best gun smiths in the province in my books

My dad has one on a 300. win Mag. It works great but when ever he shoots it my ears feel like they are going to bleed.
Seriously loud! Zero bruise...its a toss up.

Unless you're shooting a 460 wby, I wouldn't recommend it. If you do get one, make sure it is removable and get the thread protector for hunting situations.

It was the AMBER RUM that gave you the HEADAHES in the morning...might of been the Pilsner too !!!
We actually got 2. Tagged out first day of a 1-12 day hunt Me in the mornig..you in early evening.
And if you would of waited, you would of gotten the 60" bull in front of our camp a few days later.
BTW yes I wish I had never done it, but that rifle shoots groups like you would not believe.
