Default Marten

Anyone having any luck? We have not caught a marten since we set November 1st. This is unusual for us even with the above average temperatures. I hope it is just the warm weather.

Only caught 5 so far on line this year, somewhat slow compared to other years.

We’ve managed to pick up 6 marten now, lots of tracks on the line as well.

We’ve only taken 5 now, that being said we haven’t been hitting the line very hard yet, we’ve been dealing with some other work out there on our skinning shed as well as adjusting to a forest fire that took out a quarter of the line. I think the plan is to make more of a push end of the month into January.

Goodluck! I love seeing the colour variations of the martens, we just got lynx cubbys out on Friday but seems to be lots of cats around this year on our line, strung up a pack of wolves as well on one of our wolf baits, it has been a productive season so far.

Yeah it’s been a slower start than usual this year because of work and other things taking up our time but we have a bait pile out for the wolves and we will see if they start coming around. Lynx are going to be tricky as the place where we’ve seen most of the sign and had our luck in the past was burned down. It might take a bit of time to see where they’ve moved or if they’ve simply moved on. This year is more of a change in conditions than usual.

Just set some traps out today. Giving up the 120s this year for live traps to help with a state sponsored relocation program. Getting paid up front on top of it and no skinning. Win win for me!
