Default Custom Beef and Game Cutting Spirit River Area

Anyone looking for custom cutting of domestic animals or wild game there is a new meat cutting operation just east and a bit north of Blueberry Mountain. KD Custom Meats. 780 285 4907. Kelly and Denise do the cutting and wrapping. They have a full reefer for hanging and aging meat.

His spouse Denise Allenbrand operates a full service, 3 meals a day boarding home. Far and away the best accommodation anywhere in the Spirit River area. A Little Slice of Heaven Hunting Lodge. Whether you are in the area working or hunting, this place beats the heck out of anything in Spirit River, Rycroft or Dawson. We have been staying here for 4 years now. GREAT food, clean, warm, well maintained accommodation and a great host.

If you put the lodge name into Google maps it will bring you to the meat cutting operation and the accommodations. Highly recommend the place.

Sounds like the perfect place for an old fart like me who wants to hunt elk up I'm that area!
I will certainly consider it next year!

Too bad they didn't exist when we still hunted the area, before the crowds drove us out.

Almost every one of the places that used to cut meat in this area are now shut down. Wapiti meats at Grovedale, Shaun's, Mitche's, H&M Meats and a ton of others have shut down in the last couple of years. Was getting really hard to find a butcher, so really happy to have this option available now. Yes I know I can cut it myself but I would rather hunt that cut meat so this is a great option for us.

Shawn’s is still open, new owners called Tatonka Meats now. There also a shop near Wembley called Alberta Select Meats.

Yes we used Tatonka meats for the Elk this year but they were full and couldn't take our moose so we went to Alberta Select Meats at Wembly. Used both of them last year also, it really threw a monkey wrench in us when South Wapiti Meats at Grovedale closed they were our go to for 20 years Terry was great but after he had his spial stroke it was tough for him and his son, he said they just couldn't hire people and Terrance and Katerina couldn't do enough by themselves to make a go of it so they called it a day and closed the shop in Dec 2022.

Yes, Wapiti was great for many years. Used them a lot when I lived there and also after I moved south. They did a very good job, never had to wait to get an animal in, and they could turn one around in a couple of days if you didn't want it hung. Was great for out of town hunters and locals to.
