The 30 Remington Carbine (LMAO) is the recommended cartridge for slaughtering a mature bull. So the dirty thirty will work just fine.
The official GoC guidelines for stunning techniques of food animals, with photo examples:

FTR- When hunting bison, the Blackfeet Nation Fish & Wildlife site states:

There is one preferable shot placement for the most humane and quick kill. It is a brain shot in the ear. Even though bison are very large game animals it is possible to shoot through them. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.

Remember: It is a felony offense to enter YNP to retrieve a shot bison.

Hunt orientation for MT state hunters. A bit dated similar to most Hunters Ed videos. Gives examples of 2 preferred aiming zones and explanations why. They got to loose a LOT of blood to die if you are relying on an organ/vital shot.

This article shows brain placement

From what I am gathering, cattle are similar to bison but with some differences. There are some links in this thread that illustrate that.
Thanks for your input. Outdoorsman is a great forum.

I find having a big caliber that can poke a hole threw both lungs bleeds them out the best
Some guys drop them behind the ear then immediately cut the throat to bleed out. Would that be good too? Thanks

Good job!

That sounds like my ticket! Thanks

Those are what we use in the facilities I am in. Works every time.
The illustrations in the links in this thread seem to show the X between the horns and eyes is more for cattle. For bison it is a line horn to horn making it a bit higher up while keeping the barrel perpendicular to that slanted forehead... but if what you are doing is working for you who can argue?

These 2 links have me feeling more confident. The pics in the article show where the midbrain and brainstem are, and the video describes shooting behind the ear and aiming 'ear to ear'.
Thanks a bunch fordtruckin.

"Plan the trajectory so that the bolt/projectile travels through all parts of the brain (cerebral hemispheres, midbrain, brainstem). Of these the midbrain and brainstem are the most important parts of the brain. They are located in the centre of the brain at the level of the attachment of the ears. (See [d].)"

One article said the best caliber, load, and bullet to use is one that has a maximum muzzle velocity of 2000 fps, and energy of 1000 f/lb.
What about that?
