Sako / Tikka = Savage / Mossberg

I had an interesting opinion directed to me recently where the speaker said the Sako / Tikka in Europa equates to the Savage / Mossberg in America. Further he said one set is Euro Crap and the other set is American Crap!!!

What do you think???

Sounds like a pretty poor opinion. But I wouldn’t mind if more people shared it and maybe we could get a price drop on the Tikkas.

I don’t know, Sako/tikka. Same factory, barrels, whatever.
I do know that my Tikka T3, superlite shoots, very well, 3/4-1/2”” 3 shot groups. Factory ammo
My new Sako Peak 90, out of the box has holes touching with a couple factory loads.
Both off a bench, same rest. I’m just average joe shooter. I’ll go to range, take 1 shot at a100 and 200, verify the zero. Good to go. Kinda guy.
Both in .308. Sako 20” bbl, Tikka 22.4” same twist, both fluted thin barrels.
The Sako seems to handle the heat better?
So, there has to be some differences between a $1700 rifle and a $4800 rifle?
All I know is I won’t be sad if My Tikka doesn’t sell. A guy can always use 2 .308’s, right.

I think the guy you were talking to has absolutely no idea of the differences between Sakos, Tikka, Savages and Mossbergs.

Funny is I heard something similar but maybe more accurately that Tikka/Sako = Browning/Weatherby.

Euro/American standards. And price point matches as well as some accuracy.

I think that is a better comparison.

Mossberg / Savage would be better compared to Comminist era LADA cars. (i kid i kid)

If Tikka / Sako are "crap", then what is his opinion of what is considered "good" or "high end"?

I think it would be important to understand why this person has that opinion. I have heard a number of people say this or that is great, but once I have tried this or that. Once I have a chance to form my own opinion based on facts it has more meaning behind it.

Perhaps there were some good reasons for the thoughts that were shared.

Well, if he's from eastern Canada he probably thinks the Remington 7600 represents perfection.

I dont consider Tikka's to be a flawless firearm by any measure, about what you would expect when an incredibly cheap design is produced to very tight tolerances. But even I think comparing them to Mossberg is about as stupid as comparing Sako to Savage.

I concur with all the above...my 1st deer was with an '06 Mossy...it was the best of 80 that were cycled is.my one and only Mossberg experience...I have had Savage 99's in 250 and 358 and they were great, but I never caught that bug

Mossberg rifles are crap but I will absolutely take a 590 shotgun over any other pump and a good few semiauto shotguns out there. And as far as Savage rifles go, all the ones I have seen will out shoot a Tikka straight out of the box I just don't care for how they fit. The action isn't as smooth but I shoot Rugers and Winchesters for hunting though so I am not going to weigh in on that.

When comparing a $1500 to $2000 rifle to a $4000 one I hope you would see some dramatic gains though.

Mossberg and low-end Ruger bolt actions=2 options I don't think I'll ever seriously consider tbh. I have experience with both. Mossberg shotguns-show me a better pump action shotgun coming out of Europe?

As for the comments/opinion the OP posted-believe what you want to, I say it's BS. I'm sure there are lots of guys on this forum who know allot more than me, but if there is a more accurate, out-of-the-box rifle using factory ammo than Tikkas, I'd have to see it for myself before I'd believe it. Only have 1 SAKO, and it's a pretty nice rifle too.

So if that's true...compared to what then? lol
