Haul Road Channels?

Anyone have the radio list or preferably the program file for Baofeng radios - looking for the main oilfield / haul roads for NE AB / NW BC. I had it sent to me but cant find it.

just an FYI, those radios are technically illegal to have/use. That being said, I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for using them. Every road you go to will have the frequency on the sign, so there is no need to pre-program with a baofeng, just roll up and punch the numbers in right there.

Are you sure about that? Are you referring to a specific model, or Baofeng radios in general?
My understanding is that you may own, and listen to, a UHF or VHF radio. But you may not transmit unless you hold the appropriate certification.
I know people that took the short course (IIRC 6 hours in class) to get licensed so they could legally use them on haul roads and for offroad use. That was only 4-5 years ago.

^^Regarding taking the ditch- I've taken the ditch several times when meeting logging trucks on the FTR. Luckily for me, every location was drive in, hammer down, drive out. Never even stopped.

Your take is actually accurate, the issue is, a lot of guys also use them on GMRS or FRS (used on consumer radios like Cobra, Motorola etc that you buy at Cabelas or Costco) and since they exceed the wattage limit that technically is a violation on those frequencies. Never heard of anyone getting opped for doing it though.

^^ Thanks, I should have clarified that I was hoping that I could get the actual data file. I did get it from someone on here in the past just cant find it.

The above Government website only lists the Logging companies. There are several other channels that you will nee. Like for example LADD 1,2,3,4 and Oilfield company channels. If you phone Vector Communications up in Grande Prairie, and ask for a copy Radio channel list, they can email it to you.

If you download the Chirp program from the Baofeng website you can fill in all the frequencies you want to upload and transfer them all at one time. Saves having to key them in separately to 2 or more radios and that way all your radios have the same frequencies on the same channel number. You do need the proper cord to do the transfer.

Snow and mud is probably the best place to ask. I don’t have a full list to send as I don’t use some of the channels and created my own list. Not all roads will have the actual frequency listed so it’s best to have pre programmed.

I wouldn’t worry about the legalities of it. I would be more worried about meeting the logging truck head on.

Grab a long antenna or the external. Way better range.

I asked on SM as well. I’m not worried about the legalities. My new GMC truck didn’t come with a 12 volt cigarette plug for my 2-way. Want to get this going until I can get a 12 volt plug installed. I can manually enter them into CHIRP but that is going to take a loooooonnnng time.

It will take you maybe ten minutes to manually enter them for Alberta and B.C. You don't care about yard channels etc. so the actual road channels are not that many. You can also import a CSV file to chirp and then do a few minor edits.

As far as cigarrette lighter, my 2021 Ram doesn't have one either but there is a 12 Volt on the upper dash as well as a plug hidden inside the centre console and one in the back seat. You can also buy cigarette lighter type plus that work off the 110 volt outlet on pickups or plugs into a usb port, but the USB ones are limited to about 2 or 3 AMPS..
