Default Help Identifying a Rod

My wife's grandpas old rod. It's an old Eagle Claw. Looks to me like it says 8 oz, or maybe 3, but that doesn't make sense. Can anyone tell what weight it is?

Default Rod

It takes a 7or 8 wt. line. The other number is how much it weighs. Can’t tell if it’s a 3 or 8.

If you look at the shape of the 8 and the shape of the other number, it would seem to be a 3.

Of course, the easiest way to check out the weight is to put a fly line on it and see. Huge difference in casting an 8 wt as opposed to a 3 wt. An experienced fly caster could also tell the difference in handeling.

Definitely Wright & McGill, 7/8 wt. line.
8oz. seems way too heavy. 3oz. seems way too light (unless it's really short).
Weigh the rod. Simple.
