Reading articles, the family had contacted both the military, and the police about his mental health issues, and the military had also contacted law enforcement, so his mental issues were apparent months before the shooting spree. This seems to be the common theme, with the majority of the people involved in these shooting sprees. What I didn't see in the articles, was where he obtained the firearm.

In Canada
It is much harder to get an assault rifle if you are hearing voices. On the other hand if you are just a homicidal manic you may be able to get one.

There's never been a mental health check for firearms. You hear way too often about ignored warning signs. When it finally happens, family and friends knew it would happen eventually.

It is virtually impossible to legally acquire an assault rifle in Canada, given that they have been prohibited for decades.

Actually, several years ago ,an individual in Lac La Biche was denied a PAL , beause she was convicted of uttering death threats. However, it went to court, and the judge ruled that she had to be granted a PAL, so that she could exercise her hunting rights.

I just read the update this morning. I’d say the media and law enforcement needs to start posting a pic of his deceased face/body rather than a pic of his passport/DL photo. How did things get the way they have???

Did they at least tell her to shoot animals and not people? What a joke. If you threaten to kill people, should that not be an automatic refusal? She can go hunt for food in the meat section at Walmart.
I get that it's easy for some to slip through the cracks, but something should be done with the blatantly obvious ones.
