Good varmint loads for 30-30 win
I was wondering if anyone had some good coyote loads for a 30-30 Winchester M94, as they are in abundance and I would like to thin them out

Any round will work. A 30-30 is not a fantastic coyote round due to caliber, MV and often the crude sights. But a 30-30 will kill coyotes just as good as any if you can hit them. You wont likely get good results on hides but you'll have dead dogs...if your just thinning them down just shoot whatever is affordable and accurate in your gun

First off this years prices are almost rock bottom so even a lot of trappers are hanging up thier snares this year. Second large rn or fn bullets designed for the 30-30 will not be pelt friendly. The Hornady ftx bullets are also a very soft bullet designed for expansion....not what a coyote hide hunter wants.. I would recommend a 22cf instead of the 30-30 if your after selling hides.
If your set on a 30-30 your best bet is load up either hard cast bullets or find sabots ( .224 bullet in a .308 plastic sabot) although I think they were discontinued years ago... do you have other options for a coyote gun? Maybe a 12g? I use a 12g with dead dog choke and #4buck on coyotes and as long as you kill them fairly far out (50-70yds) you dont get major pelt damage although you can get quite a bit of hair cut due to pellets that will degrade the hide. A 204, or 22cf is by far your best bet for minimal pelt damage or a 17 or even 22mag in good hands can put coyotes down as long as range is kept kinda close.

That's like saying " what's the best Ford Taurus for drag racing?" In 30 30 just pick a bullet your rifle likes and punch em through the lungs and hope it doesn't blow a hole in the hide.

I remember years ago I was in Caroline at the outdoors shop. They had 30/30win. "accelerators". I think it was a 70 or 75 grain bullet in a plastic sabot. I haven't seen these since then, not even sure if they're still made. But, if you could locate a box or two of these I bet they would make a fine varmint round.

They were 55 grain .224” saboted soft points, made by Remington, and they haven’t been made in a very long time.
You could try reloading some 110 grain fmj’s but the ricochet prospect is very real.
As others have said, your 30/30 isn’t the best tool for the job.

I have noticed that Hammer bullets has a 101 gr 30 cal bullet, I would try that but I am a little concerned about stability in the 1:12 twist barrel

The 243 you are loading for in another thread is a much better tool although it can also be very hard on fur. 80-85gr barnes are about the best on fur I have ever tried.

You've inverted the Greenhill Formula.
Smaller/shorter bullets need less twist, there’s plenty of twist in you’re run of the mill 30/30 for 100 grain bullets.

Any 30-30 bullet at normal 30-30 velocities is slow enough and built to not expand enough to severally damage a coyote pelt.
Any exits holes will be small and require very minimal amount of stitching.

You can reload these
You can still buy.30 cal. sabots and lots of .22 bullets. Remember the .22 bullets are pointed and shouldn't go in your magazine.
You don't get bench rest accuracy but it will drop a coyote.

There was 3 boxes of factory loaded 50 gr accelerators at the Senlac gun show yesterday if you or anyone you know happens to be near there.
