Default Wind forecast apps.

Does anybody have any apps that are good for wind forecasts? I used to have a good one, but my old brain can’t remember what the hell it was.

I’ve used Windy as my primary weather app for the last few years. It seems pretty good.

x5 Windy.

Sometimes I still find Environment Canada to be more reliable in their weather forecasts, but Windy is generally pretty good about predicting windy days in advance.

Windy has rarely been wrong for me. I usually check it multiple times a day when out on the lake because of how quickly the wind can come up in the south.

Although it is not an 'app' per se, you might try www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca It requires a little interpretation and a knowledge of isobars, but it works for me.

Windfinder and Windy. I do find Windfinder a bit more accurate though.

How does one see forecast wind speed on windy. I see direction but no wind speed.

It's color coded with a reference at the bottom of your screen that displays wind speed to whatever unit you select. Should be able to scroll that bar for forecasted wind speed and the map will update with forecasted wind direction relative to date with a bit of animation as well for speed.

I lately have a little more faith in the Windy app vs Windfinder. I used to always just use Windfinder but last year I used them side by side for the first time and often they will forecast pretty similar but when they differed Windy was more accurate.

Select the location by clicking it and you will see a flag showing wind speed. At the bottom choose the forecast day and time. Hope this helps.
Cheers

Default Wind forecast apps.

Do you have to pay for either of those apps?

I use Windfinder before every outing. I leave it on Stoney Plain. For some reason it doesn't convert to metric properly but no big deal.

On my phone I have to to click the little wind icon on the top right and then move the flag around but same idea. Does give a more detailed forecast than using the way I described.
