Default landed a big fish on small tackle!

I had a pretty interesting afternoon on Snipe on Sunday. At first I decided to fish for pike, and had landed two smaller ones, then my deadline went off, and it was a 11 inch perch that hit on a jig and a minnow with a leader on!! That was awesome, I thought "well theres perch right here" so I switched into perch mode.

They were biting pretty consistently, and it was fun, then I got a hit that was NO perch! Line was screaming off my light rod, but I kept bringing it back, and it kept peeling it out again. I caught a glimpse of the pike flash by the hole, and I thought for sure I was going to get broke off at any second.

But I didn't! I was able to land this pike after some effort, with the tackle shown in the pic - a tiny tear drop hook, no leader, tipped with a small maggot.

I know its not a monster pike by any means, but was it ever satisfying finally pulling him up!

Was a great experience.

It is exciting getting a pike on your perch/whitefish rig.... Always wondering when or if your gonna get it through the hole before he cuts your line😁

Happens every time I go out lol. Happened last weekend out at pigeon but with a walleye. Little wire worm and one maggot.

My PB pike was caught on. 1/4oz jig head with half a minnow for bait under a bobber on ML rod and 8# test. 15lbs on the scale, picture can be found on one of my threads.

That's awesome WF, this pike doesn't go anywhere near that size, and I had 6 lb test line on. I was most impressed with how a tiny tear drop hook held that pike and how it didn't break off with no leader! Pretty good feeling to land it.

Thanks, I'm going to have to get a hold of my friend who was with me at the time, he's got an underwater picture where you can make out the jig head right at the corner of the pikes mouth. It is pretty amazing how little hooks hold big fish sometimes. 12# steelhead on a #4 gamagatsu by just a sliver of skin on it's lower lip was pretty fun too.
