Default Alliant powders

I heard a rumor that we won't be seeing anymore Alliant powders into Canada for at least a year. If it's true, this is really going to suck as my 6.5x55 and my 6.5-284 both love a diet of reloader 22.

This rumor has been coming up for the last two years. Get outside the box and you'll be able to find alliant powders. It is true though that they are a little more scarce this side of the border than H and IMR offerings.

Cue Dick284s post on the tribulations of sourcing Alliant powder.

H1000, h4831 ,h4350, imr4831, imr4350. The h1000 will burn cooler than the others and should give slightly higher velocities as well.

Vihtavuori N560 and N550 will work fine. Check their online load manual.

Well I guess I'm not a very good hunter then because I checked P&D, wss, prophet river, Corlanes, Bashaw, Dudleys, kodiak lake, rps and cabellas and none of them had any Alliant powders.

I didn't say it's easy to find . I looked for a year before I got that stuff and I would call coast to coast every couple weeks. Get on a back order list like say Grouse River. I ended up getting mine in GP.

It's not easy to find, but I have managed to find several pounds each of R-22,R-7, and R-10X, fairly recently. My last order of R-22 came from Quebec.

i emailed Alliant few days ago :

Mathieu,

Where the greatest amount of powder is going is for the manufacturing of ammunition for the civilian market. Companies such as Winchester, Remington, Speer/CCI, Federal Hornady are using most. Throw on top of that all the small remanufactured ammunition companies across the country and the demand for powder is extremely high. There are signs of an easing in this extreme demand. More ammunition is found on the shelves today than there was 8 months ago. Primer orders are dropping off. Finally, gun sales are way down today compared to recent times. Having worked in retail in the past, we saw similar situations with ammunition and primers. Those periods lasted a maximum of 18 months. We are currently into this about 18 months. If historical trends follow through, then we should be seeing an easing in this extreme demand soon.
Thanks,

Shoot Straight
