As you can tell from my username, I am a huge 25-06 fan. But I have an opportunity to purchase a nice rifle in 270WSM. Just wondering your thoughts on this calibre?? I know the 25-06 is a little bit "light" for Elk & Moose but I was wondering if the 270 would be a good rifle for this game?? TIA

Happy with mine.I reload,so no more expensive to shoot than many others.130 grainers at 3300 fps works well for me.

You will never "need" another rifle for Alberta.

I have used mine for several deer, an elk, anr a moose. I bought a .338 for elk and moose. I carried that .338 for a month, looking for my bull. Dropped it pretty haed one morning just as I got out of the truck. Grabbed my .270 WSM to be safe, walked to the next quarter and saw a bedded bull. I put my sticks under the forestock and walked at the bull until it stood up. I sat down, took one shot and the bull dropped. Didn't take a step.

My son shoots a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 WSM.
I handload 130 grain Nosler Accubonds for it.
Drops stuff like the hammer of Thor! Recoil is not an issue, even in a relatively light rifle.
Not a huge advantage in velocity over a .270, but a very useful and popular cartridge. Ammo is fairly widely available.

Buy it. Have a 1:8 twist barrel waiting to be chambered, then I'll have two. If you load for it maximum or near max powder charges are required to seal neck.

Do you handload ? Because mine will blow the doors of off a 270 win. My current load is a 129lrx @ 3420 fps. With the 270 wins that I have owned it was hard to get 3100 fps.

Sounds like a awesome cartridge. I've heard some rifles don't feed out of the magazine well with the short mags.

I've heard that too, but I have had this round in a Kimber, a Rem 700 , and a Winchester model 70. Fed slick as butter and killed like cyanide.

Bought an 85 stainless synthetic for my son when he was born ( he is six now ). I played with it a bit. Load some for it. Whacked a 4 year old bull moose with it

Might carry it this year instead of the Sako 75 SS in 338 Win mag.
I was looking for either the 270 or 270 WSM in Grey Wolf and am real happy the WSM came up first.

Buy it and some dies and don't look back.

Can you explain the seal neck ?
I've never heard of that

Mine had whacked and stacked alot of bone now. Its a cartridge I will never part with. Of all the guns I have this setup gets the nod every time I walk out the door.

The 25-06 might be the most pleasurable rifle to shoot in the big game lineup. I don't blame you for using it, and I'd argue that if you're a solid shot, you needn't change your rifle for elk and moose. You seem like you've shot a few rifles, and are aware that the 270 WSM has far more recoil than a 25-06. IMO, a poorly placed shot from the 270 WSM will be "light" relative to an accurate 25-06 poke. If you're ok with the recoil, I'd say go for it, but by no means does your 25-06 lack the jam to handle those animals either.
