Default Scope Mount Question - Problem or Illusion?

Swapped out the old 4X power scope on my .22LR with a new 2x - 7x variable set into the same rings. When at 2X I can now see the end of the barrel but the cross hairs are offset to the right about 1/2" from the line of the barrel.

I then remounted the old scope, put a vertical stick on the end of the barrel so I could see the alignment and yet again, cross hairs 1/2" to the right in a scope that should still be roughly sighted in.

Tried my other scoped rifles and they all seem to have cross hairs to the right of the end of the barrel to some degree.

Anyone else experience this? Does it indicate a problem or just an illusion? Logically to me the vertical cross hairs should be straight in line with the barrel.

Set your scope on optical center. You can do so by turning the turrets all the way in, then turn all the way out counting clicks or number of turns. Now go back half way. You can also use a mirror against the objective lense. With it it centered, you should be near center of target both windage and elevation wise requiring only a few clicks to get you on center at 25 yards. If your POI is far from your POA, you may have slight issues that can be corrected. Keep in mind that your fixed 4x likely has a different parallax setting than your variable

But the again, you could be canted.......never mind, lol.
