At Jackrabbit ranges not really, a bad hit will destroy lots of the meat no way around that.

22 hornet works well, that new 17 hornet could be just about perfect.

I have yet to try the 17 hmr, it would probably be alot like the 22 hornet.

Yes I have gotten them with both 22's and 12ga but getting that close is more of a matter of luck unless there are tons of them and they get stupid.

"Around" Bragg Creek in Kananaskis could be a good public land area to look for Snowshoes. Find the right habitat, Swamps and creeks with lots of willow or very thick new growth aspen. They prefer to feed on young Aspen at this time of year, and use the willows for safety.

Lots of Jacks east and south /east of Calgary. With the lack of snow, they are pretty easy to spot.
Well Millarville/Bragg Creek is not a place you want to hunt in my experience. It's just too busy .

Okay so I went hunting around the Turner Valley this weekend.

So there was a lot of tracks at the spot but I did not see a single rabbit. I tried marching around the river, the edges of forests, the sides of hills, and the deep forest all while jumping on logs and kicking up bushes. If it helps, I was hunting around 30-60mins after sunrise.

I would like to use to snares but I don't want to leave something overnight where I have to drive 1 hour to retrieve it.

Lots of snowshoe hares up the forestry trunk road past Cochrane this year. A buddy and I recently took 2 each on a liesurely hour-long walk. That's all we needed for a couple of rabbit pies - so we called it a day.

Here's a recent "Elmer Fudd moment" photo taken last month, with my all-time favorite wabbit wifle - a combo .22 / 20 guage Savage. If they want to sit tight, thread a .22 bullet through the willows, if they want to run - bwast'm with the 20 guage!
