the large lake with the island in it ( i can never remember which is upper, middle and lower) has the most size variation and numbers. you have to do a lot of exploring around the lake to find the larger ones. but it produces the most consisitent of the three. the next larger lake (i think it is the middle lake) contains brookies and i have never had much luck in that lake and most people i talked to fishing it never caught much out of it but it does have some big brookies in it if you can convince them to bite. i have fished that lake probably 5 - 8 times in the last 10 yrs and have probably 2 fish to show for all that effort.

the smallest lake (McDonald Lake, what a great name) is the trophy lake and has the size and limit restriciton on it. they implemented it last year so there should be some nice sized fish in there this year. last year when we fished it, we could not keep the stockers off the flies. they would hit the fly on the back cast in a lot of cases. landed close to 100 fish each that day. as long as people abide by the regs and respect the lake, there are going to be some bruisers coming out of there in a few years.

so your best bet is the larger lake for size variations but McDonald lake might be your best bet for that larger fish.

Default Pierre Grey's

We were there last week and did quite well on the Upper Lake catching quite a few brook trout around 12 inches long. My wife also caught a bull trout about the same size. We caught them all trolling small minnow patterns on sinking flyline. The 2011 stocking report says that they put 1000 browns in the upper lake this year. Not sure if its a misprint but that could be interesting in a few years if its correct. Also be aware that the CO came by to inform everyone that there was a grizzly that had been around the campgroung so be careful to keep your camp clean.

We fished the brookie lake last weekend and had success trolling a fly with a small split shot.
