Default Edmonton traffic lights

Am i imagining it or are the street lights set to take longer to change in Edmonton lately? Seems like I sit way longer on red.

Do you want to quit driving yet?
Excellent! We have a 15 minute city on the horizon for you!

In all seriousness, I haven't noticed anything about the lights. Just major construction for mostly stupid stuff on basically every major artery.

I hate driving in any big city, but Edmonton seems to go out of it's way to mess up traffic.

In Edmonton, park your car and take a bus. You can get anywhere you want to go in 4 1/2 hours.

Question Vision Zero?

Watch the light timing carefully, it is likely a result of traffic safety measures being implemented by the architects of Vision Zero. If it is anything like Calgary, there are busy intersections that have a 2-5 second delay where everyone is facing a red light when the lights change. Add in the Auto-Stop vehicles delay in getting moving, and less traffic moves every cycle.
Or, it could just be Edmonton drivers.

Seems older I get crankier I get. Oh and also more pee stops needed lol

I gotta get back to the country. We keep a trailer at the lake. But wife says no way we are living in that lil trailer. She won’t move back to the country no matter what now we are here.

Fort Sask looking better all the time. Don’t want to pay taxes to Edmonton anymore. They are making many semi busy roads down to one lanes to fit bike lanes in and like my councillor said to slow traffic down and maybe get them to take LRT instead. Unbelievable.

Jeeses you should’ve seen how they are driving in Peru! Turning left from the right lane is normal, six lanes of cars driving in a 3 lane road- normal too!
Edmonton is a pure heaven after that!

Sounds like Bolivia, or Tijuana. It's always an adventure.

I'm not sure about Edmonton, but I remember reading this article a while back about Calgary traffic lights.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...ight-1.6633586

The red light you just hit? It's supposed to get you to the office sooner

With a few keystrokes and mouse clicks, staff at the facility can override any of the city's 1,200 traffic signals when necessary: say, when traffic backs up after a Calgary Flames game, or when construction has impacted regular timing.

It's a big responsibility.

And as for those frustrations residents might feel with those pesky red lights downtown?

Calgary's traffic management system — like that of any sprawling urban city — is complex. In industry jargon, it's based on traffic flow theories to reduce overall delays. In layman's terms, all those red lights are intended to serve the greater good.

That is literally is a least of your worries! Some of our drivers were watching Netflix movies while driving, soccer games and reading their phones - all at the same time! And I’m not even joking! They have an iPad size screens in their cars that they use to watch soccer or movies…. Again, I’m not making this up, and not kidding!

Default Edmonton Traffic

I live in the west end.
The BS that is the LRT construction is pathetic.
I drive these roads every day.
142 street at Stony Plain road.
149 street at Stony Plain road,
156 street from Stony Plain road to Meadowlark,
87 ave from Meadowlark to the Mall,
The bridge over Groat Road
I could go on.

All a sh..t show.
Days on end when there is ZERO construction. If I ran our construction company like the city, we would have been fired.
Roads closed or detours with no rhyme or reason.
I cannot imagine what the cost over runs will be.
No accountability what so ever.
Everyone on City Council should be fired.

Bunch of Village Idiots.

Probably get a time out for my rants.

If you don’t like the traffic lights in Edmonton go for a spin around Sherwood Park… you won’t complain as much.

We don’t have traffic issues in Edmonton or Calgary for that matter. Not even close as compared to other cities in NA.

I rode the new lrt line to the Eskimos game on Saturday.

It stops at traffic lights.

Didn't they already have a fleet of busses that could do that?

They are taking out that 4 way stop that is located behind Wallmart on 137 ave on the east end . Buddy that lives there decided to call and ask what its costing to do it .. when he found out he asked me what i thought the price was. I told him 1.2 million ....He said they told him the whole change over is 22. million .
Just not right for an intersection that is never busy .

They have turned Hermitage road into one lane either way so they can get bike lanes in. From 50 st all the way down to the herm park. When your going west to turn south onto 50st used to be two lanes for left turns it’s now one lane with an empty space next to it. Now in morning rush hour those wanting to go straight through get cars blocking them backed up trying to turn left. I talk to the foreman on that 139 ave traffic circle. He said the cure for this stupidity was vote all city council out. The councillor said there plan is/was to slow traffic up. What was wrong the with 4 way they took out to put traffic circle in. I see it’s down to one lane from all 4 direction to get into the circle now. Making a bottle neck. Firetrucks are haveing fun squeezing through they tell me. So Hermatige road is quite cramped now as it’s bike lanes by the curb then parking then traffic lane so close to parked cars. Close enough to take a door off.

And on the news tonight city council is saying they have 37 million dollar deficit. Rant over

Well people, the time to be silent is long over.
Next election period get out and talk to your neighbors. Express your disgust for all members of council.
See what happens.
I know my wife and I were ostracized from many of our neighbors just for saying Trump would be better for the US than Hillary.
We truly do live in the commie capital. There is no saving it now.
This city is like Gotham, it must burn. Except there's no Batman to save it.
Enjoy the decline, and then prep your marshmallows.

Over 100,000 people have moved to Edmonton in the past two years. They’re all driving the same roads you and I are. It’s causing traffic issues that probably makes it seem like lights are red for longer.

That said, it’s still pretty good in Edmonton compared to most major cities. We don’t even know what real traffic is here.
