Skunk fur, taxidermy
Hi everyone,
I have a skunk living at my house and i am hoping to be able to catch it next week.I have the trap.
After thats done i'd like to maybe get it mounted or just have the fur. Now i don't know the first thing about taxidermy, i was wondering if anyone on here knows someone that does it or just give me an idea about cost to see if its even worth it. I can image its not the greatest thing to work with...
I'm in sherwood park

Here's one I did years ago, is hanging in my shed. Anyone who traps, etc. should be able to skin it for you. I home tanned mine.

1. Where there is one skunk they usually is 5 more give or take a couple. Catch all of them.
2. When you catch your skunk wash him first thing. Hydrogen peroxide baking soda and dish soap. Good video on YouTube.
3.skin and flesh again another video on YouTube.
4. Decide whether you want to tan it your self or have a tannery do it. I use http://www.highcountrywildlife.ca/Home_Page.php rod is a great guy. There are others in Edmonton. Tanning should be under $100
5. If you want it full mounted let the taxidermist skin it out. And I wouldnt be surprised if tax bill was 800$.

No babies yet. I stuck the camera in there. In fact, i filled the hole last night with dirt and the stinker didn't come back over night, and i can't see a second entry hole. would i be celebrating to soon if i say its gone?

Not much I can do. I don't want to skin it. Drake may do it for a few $$. I just want the carcass if he is going to toss it.
He wants to get the hide tanned and skinned for under $80. I don't think it is possible. I checked Westerns prices and they do not have skunks listed but a Fisher is $92, badger $78 and Racoon $94 so there are some prices of just tanning. To pay for skinning and fleshing added to the price then I would bet you would be over $100 all in? I know i wouldn't skin and flesh for less than $20 if i was even interested in it....
Just hate to see good skunk essence wasted

Interesting post. In the past it has been suggested that killing the mother of nuisance animals like coyotes and skunks is an effective way to cull them.

Skunks don't give birth until May so there are no kits around yet.

If someone charges him $20 to skin/flesh the hide then take it into the ATA store in Westlock to get it tanned, the tanning is only $60 for a skunk! As such, voila....you have the $80 target met! Getting animals tanned through the ATA store is by far the cheapest option for anyone....and amazing quality tans. They get sent to international fur dressers in Winnipeg which does great work. Most stuff is 1/2 the price of Edmonton.

I take all of my fur to get tanned to the ATA. Their prices are pretty much in line with what International Fur Dressers charges and you don't have to mess around with permits or shipping. Skunks are the exception though, and the $60 that they charge is more than double what International charges. I don't know why that is, I'll have to ask AJ. Anyone have a current price list for International?

International increased their prices recently.
skunks are 59 cased
foxes 66 cased.

Thanks Phil! I took a skunk in in the Fall and Int was only charging $15 or $20 plus a bit extra for case skinned. I actually questioned whether or not there was a mistake made in what they charged me.

Lure for payback , LOL I had a problem with loud kids in a school yard during summer vacation , Cops were never going in there to stop it , A whole lot of happy fluid was sprayed on the grassy knoll where the noise was coming from and now it is as quiet as a graveyard!
