Default Next 22LR

I'm looking to buy a new 22 as my old one does not fit the bill anymore. The 22 I currently have is a marlin 915YS, this was my first rifle and I hate to replace it, but the 12 lb trigger pull isn't helping me improve my shot by any means. I am looking to find a bolt action, preferably heavy barreled, 22. These are the rifles I am thinking of:

http://ca.wholesalesports.com/storef...rod243570.html (make sure if you look to click on the type and hit "target/varmint")

http://ca.wholesalesports.com/storef...rod224416.html ( on this link be sure to select the "Laminate/blued" finish)

If you could please tell me which rifle you think would be better for target practice and shooting gophers. Also if you have any other rifles you can recommend, that would be greatly appreciated.

I can recommend the site, rimfirecentral.com, as a resource.

I've no direct experience with either rifle on your list. One thing jumped out. I often find the Winchester style magazine box to interfere with a smooth hand carry. Some mag boxes do interfere some do not, ask around.

My next 22LR will be a Marlin 39A and I like the feel of the CZ American (I'm a lefty and they make one in a left bolt).

I highly recommend a CZ. I have the LUX with open sights and it is a gopher killing machine. They make very accurate rifles, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Of the two you mentioned, I would choose the Savage. I have a .22 CZ American (not a heavy barrel) that shoots well...and a .17 HMR CZ Varmint that also shoots well. If buying a CZ, I recommend you choose the one with the best factory target you can find.

Just bought a Mark ll, if you’ve never fired with the “Accu trigger” you’ll be more then surprised at the light trigger pull.

I have kinda been leaning towards the savage as well because of the trigger, but I'll just have to see them both and see which one fits better.

Go for a cz.
Much better than any other for anything up to three times the price.
The test target means nothing. It's not an accuracy test. Cz themselves have confirmed this.

Of the two you listed, the Savage is by far the better gun. The Winchester is an el cheapo made in Russia junk IMO. Nothing fancy about the Savage, but they are good reliable, accurate rifles. I don't think you will be disappointed.

CZ with the heavy "varmint" barrel... they shoot like a darn and are built well, just buy every brand of ammo you can, set targets at 100 yards and let the bullets speak for themselves.

both of ours shoot mini mags very well
but stay away from stingers, there to long

I bought the savage BTV with a green and grey laminated thumbhole stock, shot some american eagle rounds at 50 yards, the hole just kept getting bigger, 25 shots in one hole. LOVE THIS RIFLE
