Android TV boxes
My sister bought me an Android TV box for Christmas, it’s supposed to arrive here today. 🙄
I know nothing about these things and I’m not a really tech type guy.
Anyone else use them? What are the ins and outs?

Thanks so much for the generous offer.
I got the thing going last night, remote doesn’t seem to work at all but the wireless keyboard does.

It may sound dumb but maybe put in a new set of batteries in the remote. Some of the ones that come with them are pretty bad. It may be all that it is.

Yeah I put brand new batteries in and when that didn’t work I tried the batteries out of other devices known to be good.

Also try unplugging the unit for several minutes then restart and see if it resets. Common fix for a lot of electronics.

In the settings menu you will find a spot to pair the remote to the box, many come not paired to start with. Once paired it should work fine.

android box entertainment
Lots of options with an android box and decent internet. I subscribe to a tv streaming service for about $15 a month and am very happy so far. Been a cord cutter for better than a year now. Kodi can be great with a decent build or add on and then pair with Real-Debrid for about 6$ a month and watch anything you can think of. Most of the time you can watch a show on Kodi an hour after it was on TV.
I suggest you run a VPN just to protect yourself from CRTC type dicks.
TV now cost us about $30 month for the programing, VPN , and Real Debrid. Sure beats the hell out of the $160 month I gave to Bell in the past.
Bit of a learning curve to the boxes and how to get best features.

Second Kodi post in a couple of weeks. Should i dust mine off? It's pretty old though. Worth getting the new one?
And any of the gurus here, quick run down on setup would be really appreciated.
Where get the add-ons now, which ones work...
Movies, tv shows, sports?
If posting here would go against the rules could do pms

kodi builds
Check out a web page called Troypoint.com. Lists most working Kodi builds and great instructions on how to install them. Right now I am using a service called reactive tv for live TV. These outfits get nuked by FCC regularly so if you get 3 months before they disappear be happy. Best to have unlimited internet and if you do a live TV subscription do it only monthly. I learned the hard way but its still been cheaper than Bell. LOL

Long time cord cutter here. Started with K.dee way back when. Then got caught up in the APK thing for a while. Direct website streaming, now a combo of APK and K.dee. The APK type world is great for the none techie crowd. Heck when I am working on the road the wife does not hesitate to update her unit. K.dee still works great but you have to be a bit on the techie side to run it. Yes there are many builds out there but I find it just as easy to download and install my own add ons and set things up how I like not how someone else likes. Good internet is a must and even better if you can run your box wired instead of wifi. Tons of stuff to watch for shows and movies once you know where and how to find them. Again the APK method is great for all those. I find for UFC events and the like K.dee is still my go to.

We used Android TV services. On the whole, we were happy with their service. Initially, the annual subscription was not too expensive.

IPTV providers
I just ordered a Fire TV cube. Looking for a decent IPTV subscription in AB. Please PM me any suggestions, or who you've had good luck with.
Thanks.

I use apollotv, and have it all setup to run through my amazon firestick. Have been using it for years. Has tons of movies and tv shows, live tv as well.

We run a couple SkyStream Android boxs with Atomic. I dont think there is a sports channel we dont get including every ESPN + channel.
I have not found a tv show or series that I can not get. Doesnt matter if it is on Apple Tv, Prime, Netflix, HBO etc.
PPV is all free.
There is no chance I ever go back to cable.
