Lakeland Walleye Hotspots
Now that the first of June is here all of the Lakeland regions walleye lakes are open for fishing. And boy, is there lots to chose from! Moose lake situated a short drive from the community of Bonnyville is one of the best early season spots and, with a one fish limit, no tags required. A fish fry is always a sure thing at Moose lake. The lake offers classic walleye structure like sunken islands and steep drop offs close to shore that are full of eager walleye always ready to bite a slow trolled leech and phelps floater. To enjoy a more remote fishing experience head north to beautiful Siebert Lake. The lake offers fantastic walleye fishing within sight of the campground but remember no bait is allowed on this body of water. Trolling shad raps in the perch pattern is all that is needed to catch these chunky marble eyes and 12-14ft. of water is the perfect depth. Once found, these spots will hold fish all year long. A short drive from Siebert lake lies one of Alberta's best walleye lakes. Pinehurst Lake is a walleye factory with rocky shorelines and underwater humps that are perfect for the slip bobber fisherman . Anchoring on one of the many rock strewn shorelines and throwing a leech on a slip float is the perfect summer past time on a hot day. Remember to check the fishing regulations for size restrictions and tag requirements. Farther east lies Marie Lake which requires no tags to keep a walleye over 20ins. With its clear water and rocky shorelines it is not hard to find fish in this beautiful lake. The favorite method on Marie is to anchor in 12-20ft. of water and vertical jig with the classic jig and minnow combo. Bounce the jig off the bottom several times and then hold it still to entice one of these hungry fish into biting and . . . remember hold on tight. Come out to Alberta's Lakeland region and enjoy the excellent walleye fishing the area has to offer.
