Yup...one of the reasons I flyfish pike :) *pics*
Well snuck out early today from work for a quick fish.....this is truly why I love getting out.....
Fought like a champ...made the reel scream a few times I had to watch my thumb didn't get in the way
Sorry for the poor pic quality I was the only one there and no one in sight .....perfect
(I really got to get an all-weather camera and stop bringing the cell phone for pics)
Was 39 inches and just over 16 inches around. Barely had her out of that water....few quick pics and back for another day! This fish would not have been considered a keeper in some of our waters....she was a tickle under 100cm.

I wish! but for the pic I straightened her out for an honest 39.....its hard to measure, keep the fish happy, and take a pic at the same time.

Great fish! I may have a waterproof (to 15ft?) Pentax Optio W60 digital camera you can have, if I can find it. Haha just found the box, but of course it was empty. Camera is somewhere... Only used it a dozen times or so in 2 years. Not sure how the battery is after sitting so long though, haven't seen it for over a year... But I can search if you're interested

I received a PM about how heavy the fish was.....I used a calculator and it came out about 16-17lbs which seems reasonable to me based on how chunky it was.
If I plan on releasing a fish I don't like to hook them up to a scale for a weight measurement....IMHO it causes undo stress and more chance of injury so I take the length and girth (sometimes) and let them be free.
If I was set up with a cradle scale then I would likely do a weight on them.

I really appreciate the offer! I am in the market for a new camera as it is. If I don't find one I will drop you a PM and we can work something out. We need to get out fishing sometime as it is!

What has become of Fly fishermen?
There was a time that the fly, the riffle, the cast and how you tied the fly would have been in the story! What rod? Line? reel? you get the idea.
Nice job on your own though.

Thanks for asking! This was in a lake and it was on the inward windblown shore. The fly was a 6 inch leech pattern that I have tied for years and is my go to for the big ones. I use a 3/0 eye level hook and alternate 2 colours of saddle hackle.
The rod is a TFO 9 foot 8 weight, the reel is an amundson Diablo cartridge reel. Line is Cortland species specific pike with red taper leading into slime green running line.
I usually use an over hand double haul cast to chuck the big "chicken" fly as I like to call them.
I tie the fly to the line not direct but on a loop so that when I am varying my stripping and the fly stops it almost always turns to invoke a strike of a following fish...the fly is neutrally bouyant in the water.
Care to share how you fly fish for pike?
