And Ottawa looked the Other Way ...
"This could be the knock-out punch for Alberta, unfortunately," Pelletier said, adding that some companies might not survive the hit.
"We're going to really need to see some leadership coming out of Ottawa, and I mean both the Bank of Canada and [Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau and the government… This is a crisis; this is a very serious event."
Pelletier said he'd like to see both a large fiscal spending program tailored to impacted provinces and an emergency rate cut."
Watching the news its funny how the commentators expect Our Glorious Leader to actually lead.
Now if it was 200 jobs in a dying auto assembly plant, well all the resources under the sun would be thrown at it.
Now if it was Bombardier, CPP would be tapped for a Billion to keep the Execs in their bonuses.
But this is the West, so we know common sense will not prevail.
I cannot wait for Alberta to be applying for Equalization Payments to Ottawa. But Ottawa will never throw a nickel our way no matter what the crisis.

Basically, Alberta will face the crisis on it's own, while Trudeau continues to give money to Quebec, and foreign countries, and terrorists, that is how things work with Trudeau in charge.

I feel very sorry for families that will have to weather this with little or no resources!
I expect there will be some noise from Ottawa but no concrete action. He will "understand our pain"...more word salad. My opinion a rate cut again will do little if no good whatsoever.
Stimulus package...maybe a crumb but is just a temporary bandage....too many crisis at once Worldwide.
If this financial climate is sustained for even a short period of time Alberta Energy Companies and the Service sector will be toast, and the rest will follow!

Another rate cut isn't even sticking a finger in the leaking dike. This is going to be bad. And Trudeau is probably quite pleased to see the energy sector getting killed.

Exactly, while people suffer, Trudeau will actually celebrate the destruction of our oil industry. This price war will just help him to destroy the Alberta oil industry.

We'll have no money coming in, and we will still be sending equalization payments east.

Yup, but at least our income taxes will be so low that they’ll actually be able to feel the pinch too.

Not for several years, equalization is based on a 3 year average...

unfortunately the trickle down is going to be worse than the top.
in the insolvency side of things is going crazy and getting worse by the day.
along with the corporate side of things comes the personal side of bankruptcy
not good.

Sometimes I wonder if Justin Trudeau is actually working for a foreign country with the aim to destroy Canada from within. It sure looks like it

He will go down in history as "The Destroyer of Canada" not the best title in the world but it will be his.

I've wondered the same thing.
I'd like to know the name of the man that is pulling our "prime minister's" strings.
Who's in control of the puppet destroying Canada ??

When Buffett pulled out of the LNG project in Quebec, our leader said, "With climate change, with the environmental awareness of so many consumers and investors, we need to do more to demonstrate that the jobs that we are creating, that the investments we are attracting, will be able to succeed in a world where the reality of climate change is hitting harder and harder." Of course, this means absolutely nothing in real-world terms. It's a politician trying to please everybody in the hope of getting more votes next time.
When that's Trudeau's reaction to something that happened in Quebec, where votes are essential for the Liberals, you know Alberta and Saskatchewan are screwed for sure.

I can't imagine Turdo being smart enough to be engaged in such a clever scheme. He's so dumb he'd mess it up.
He sure seems to be following a malevolent agenda but I think it's just his own misguided agenda.

“We have a strong fiscal position. We have been lowering our level of debt as a function of our economy over the last five years. That puts us in a good position to support people as they go through challenges,” said Morneau.
The Liberals are forecasting a $26 billion deficit for this financial year and $28 billion in 2020, but Morneau stressed that as a share of the broader economy, it’s a small number and that gives the government fiscal room to respond.
Morneau outlined no specific measures to boost the economy on Monday, but said the country has a strong balance sheet, a strong banking system and a strong health care system that would help them manage this crisis."
OKAYYYYY!!!!
I'm just a simple Country Boy, but could anyone on this Forum PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME how it is at all possible to be increasing your deficits year to year, and then say with a STRAIGHT FACE that you have been lowering Canada's DEBT so that you can respond to the financial crisis????
I'm just a simple Country Boy, but can anyone on this Forum PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME how it is at all possible to say that 54 BILLION cumulative Deficit (That's debt when its not paid by the way) is a small number?
I'm just a simple Country Boy, but can anyone on this Forum PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME how it is at all possible to say you have fiscal room to respond, but not tell us what the Government's response will be?
Either Finance Minister Bill Morneau is a liar, or he is suffering a very severe psychosis.
Either way, we are being governed by a bunch of fools who should not be left in charge of a Chia Pet, let alone a Country.
But then again, I'm just a simple Country Boy.

We are (or were) the economic driver hand of the country and have, per capita, 1/3 of the federal voter representation that PEI has. Mourneau knows his audience.

Only in Canada is it possible that the CFO of the country announces the deficit before the election to be 18.5 billion dollars then shortly after the election announces the deficit will be approximately 26 billion dollar and still keep his job. Only a slight error of 40%. Try this in a real company and you would be fired instantly. But our minister of finance, Bill Morneau gets to keep his job for another term and praised by his boss for doing a good job. Good grief!!

Next to Quebec, New Brunswick and PEI are the two highest paid provinces from the equalization program.
In other news, new brunswick receives a $2.2 billion equalization payment and boasts a 10.2 billion dollar surplus while Alberta is the highest contributing province to the equalization program, it’s budget is at around 8.7 billion dollar deficit.
Ah yes, the western Canadian advantage.

Canada hasn’t attracted investment in 5 years. The PM a of this country is in a lying war with his finance minister!

I still say he gets a kickback every time he throws train loads of FN money their way. 10% of the last 2.1 Billion is $210,000,000.00.
