Gun Stock?
Hello Guy's
Couple quick questions. I have a very nice Browning A bolt Stainless Stalker 300 wsm. Currently it has a very nice Boyds Stock on it. I also have the original black composite stock. The Boyds stock does not have swivels for a shoulder sling but the comp does. Will putting the old stock on for hunting season throw the scope out? (I will of course take it to the range, just want an idea) both stocks are very similar. How much do you think a gun smith would charge to put swivels on the boyd's stock? or does any one make a sling that does not require swivels.
Thanks Guy's

Why not spend $15.00 and put a set of swivel studs on your Boyds stock??

Thanks for responding Dick. I thought about that and did some searching on the internet and I don't have the 'proper' tools (or confidence) to take care of that task. With my luck I would spit the wood.
Thanks though

It is very simple to do with a drill bit. But failing that, yes I'd expect the point of impact to move.

Get a gunsmith to put in a pair of flush-mount quick-connect sockets, that you can plug your carry-strap into. One on the middle of the SIDE of the butt and a swivel in the end of the forepiece (or a metal mount-strap there, like on the TRG-22).
That way the rifle will lie flat when you carry it cross-ways against your back. You can thus carry it ten times longer and control it much better, when hiking and ducking under and around all sorts of deadfall etc.
Or, if you have to, get some sort of 4-point harness, similar to biathon rigs:

REMEMBER though, never use coarse nylon weave fabrics for anything on a hunt - they're very noisy and sound like somebody opening their fly in front of a amplifier microphone. Leather's better.

'Scuze me?
Any noise during a stalk will alert game to your presence. You can't get rid of all of it, but you can reduce the worst of it. That includes talking, radios, walking on crunchy frozen leaves, snapping twigs or breaking branches by stepping through or on them, rustling and snapping noise of candy wrappers, or banging from rigid objects like scopes swinging and striking against other objects like your rifle.
It also includes twigs running against coarse-weave synthetic fabrics making a zipping noise. That's why very fine, fuzzy material is so good for camo clothing - it's quiet.
What's your problem, exactly?

My problem is your broad brush stroke regarding synthetic slings is wrong, and I'm not sure what a dissertation on the decibel level of candy wrappers and crunchy leaves has to do with it either.

Where are you located, DB?
I'm sure one of the members here can help you install swivels on your stock.
I would charge you a coffee if you are in the Ft. Mac area!
