I'm thinking about a range again but not sure if it's worth it for I may only get out twice a summer to shoot . I use private land but that's close to a 2 hr. drive . I just heard about this range today , Is anyone familiar with or belongs to this range . Thanks

But.......

Personally I feel belonging to a local range is always worth it.

you get to meet similar minded people

chance you might make a new friend (LOL)

Helps the local firearms community.

You are in a controlled area for shooting and doing some adjustments to
your gun with out the thought some might cross your shooting target on
crown land if that's where you go

(there is a issue now of some one a dirt biker being accidently shot in BC)

Plus its usually close to where you live you might get out more

also wabamum range is 50 bucks a year but 450 members

If you don’t thin it is worth it then maybe
just maybe U R NOT THE type of guy they want at the range

quit complaining and just drive the 2 hours as it sounds like you might just not fit in anyways

think about it, not presently a me,get and want to be along and then complain the private land is not 3 minutes away

we need better people becoming contributing members to clubs all over

and certainly less complainers in the world

I belong to Wildwood. It is a great range run by very devoted folks. I highly recommend it.

I cute little range. I've been a member for about 6 or 7 years. Great trap set-up. Pistol range (25 yards), rifle range (50/100/200/300 yards), and an archery range.

I use it mainly for load development at 200 yards. The main reason, it's not very busy. Nice people. Easy going attitude.

I think Wabamun is around $180 now .

wanted to see what his reaction would be and it came through loud and clear

notice no mention of wanting to join, maybe helping out, getting involved in helping at clean -up
no mention of seeing if they hold fun shoots,

just another guy wanting a place to shoot closer than what he has now

maybe he will seek a sponsorship shortly

again we need quality members and the request starts to give you a hint of what they are all about

being on disciplinary committees for decades you get a feel for people and using a trial ballon or floating ideas can being out the true personality in people

$180 includes $50 towards your AFGA. $130 for range membership under 65. $70 Jan. 1 of the year you turn 65.

Nope. Wabamun range is $130 (under 65) and you have to buy the annual AFGA with for $50.

Not 450 members. I could tell you exactly how many but....oh wait...theres 1800. Best go elsewhere.

I took the initiation tour at Wildwood. An unnecessary 2.5 hours in duration at -25 and saw 2 things I strongly disagree with and gave it a pass.

1) No rifle racking behind shooter 2) Can't set your rifle in a stand up rack behind firing line so the accepted practise is to make sure your firearm is unloaded, lay it down on bench pointing downrange, then walk downrange to examine or set targets. Dumbest thing I've ever witnessed at a range.

No. There are racks behind the benches. There are three of them. Each can hold 5 or 6 rifles each. What range were you at?

Wildwood and a year ago there was not racks behind every rifle shooting station. Either way, guns pointed down range is a horrible idea.

One of the rules is that all firearms must be unloaded and actions open when there is a cease fire. Also, no handling of firearms is allowed if people are down range.

I certainly have no issues with that.

And there’s been those racks there as long as I’ve been a member (5 or 6 years).

No offence but you'd better take a longer look around. Might be one rack at most that holds maybe 6-8 rifles. I take that many to the range myself some days. You've got 50 yds of shooting stations. Maybe one rack. Woefully inadequate and if there WAS racks you wouldn't have a muzzles pointed down range rule. Goes against everything a kid learns in firearms training. Unload your rifle and point muzzle in a safe direction. Gun safety 101.

You trust every member out there to insure their rifles are unloaded. Good for you.I wouldn't. Mistakes happen.

You mean the rifles remain on the line while the range is closed?
I have never seen that before if that is the case.....

I'll take it back to a degree. 8 CF shooting stations. 3 small racks. I'm going to assume they're portable because there was 1 when I was there a year ago. No reason there can't be more OR most of the back wall being racked. Wabamuns half the size with double the rifle racks. But of course, we aren't allowed to leave muzzles pointed down range from the firing line while guys are checking targets either so that takes one rifle out of the equation.

Somebody wasn't thinking when the range rules were drawn up. Actions open, rifles behind firing line racked with muzzles pointed at the sky. Range is clear. Pretty basic stuff.

You got it cat. Everyone just trusts rifles are unloaded, actions are open, and nobody's touching their guns while they're pointed downrange. Recipe for disaster and so simple to rectify.

Was like that in the 80s at sherwood park range ,but then it was like a mud hole back then . Lol
