Default CNRL Chelsea River Camp

I will be flying out to the Chelsea River Camp in Ft Mckay for the first time ever and I wanted to see if anyone out there has ever had a chance to stay at this particular camp. It is my first time going out to a camp and I dont know what to really expect. Going out there on a 14/7 rotation to start my apprenticeship as an electrician. I have a basic understanding of what the camp life is like but I want to know if there is any tips or advice to ease my time there.
Thanks!

Bring sandals for the shower, and the food isn't the greatest. If you have a laptop bring it to watch movies.

Camp life isn't for everyone but this camp would be considered middle of the road or maybe slightly above.
The food is in huge cafeteria and offers a variety of food.
It's quite good and I'll bet better than the average person eats at home.
There is a large full sized fully equipped gym.
The bar is open at 6pm to 9pm.
It's a wet camp so you can bring your own booze to drink in your room.
Smoking in smoke pits ONLY!!!!
Free laundry but can get busy.
Rooms cleaned each day.
Lots of people but mostly everyone is friendly.
Random security checks with dogs so don't even come into contact with any drugs. They will boot you out for even trace elements.
Block off the air vent under your desk. This air flows to all the dorm rooms and if someone is sick, you'll get it too.
There is also a little store with huge mark up prices. So bring your own stuff.

It's a pretty good life for the money you make and the money you save.
It's like staying at a decent all inclusive hotel and making money.
Good luck and enjoy it the best you can.
It takes time to get used to the smell.
You'll like the 7 days off

Something to remember as well, some supply a towel, some do not. Some supply soap, some do not. Bring these items with you, as I have been caught without both and it was bad for everyone else!!

You will receive an email on what items to bring.
Do not ignore it.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate all the advice
my main concern is the washrooms, I have no issue with food
I have always hated public washrooms and am hoping this is not just that

Each wing has one large public bathroom and 6 individual ones with a toilet/shower. It's not your own personal bathroom but it's not a community shower room or anything. There's the main camp building and some Atco trailers outside, personally I preferred the trailers as there's never anyone above or below you.

Haha, I opened this thread to say the exact same thing! It's not just used for starting diesel trucks when in camp!

Don't break any of the Golden Rules. That will get you escorted off in a heartbeat. Last year they escorted (read kicked off) over 700 people for various infractions from smoking outside of the smoke pits, failing the drug/booze test, getting caught by the drug dogs for possession, driving infractions, accidents, smoking in the rooms, using your card to card someone else in, and on and on. The food is ok for about the first two months and then you start to find the little things about the way they cook it bugs you. Always open your sandwich to see what the meat looks like on the inside. We have had green baloney or sketchy ham served more than once. Can't go wrong with the fresh fruits or vegetables. The soup is ok also. They have fairly fresh bread in the baskets in the morning as well as bagels.

On a side note don't screw around. If you lose your OSSA you won't work at any camp ever again up there.

Bring all your incidentals... toothpaste, soap, laundry soap etc., and absolutely bring sandals.

A laundry bag will be a good idea too.
