ATV recovery
anyone know who does ATV recovery around Drayton Valley?
I have a Pioneer 1000 stuck off Elk River Road.
Two quads winching and an hour of trying isn't getting it out.

you try a snatch block, should double power of each winch! put together a gin pole to pick the atv up out of the muck, then fill under atv with logs with leafy tree branches and logs! good luck, been there done that!

If you can't get a full size pickup to it my bet is you will be on your own for recovery. Like said, snatch block, jackall, extra cable, chainsaw etc. If you can't get it out with the proper recovery gear, no one else will unless they can get bigger equipment into it. Worse comes to worst, higher a D6 to open up the trail and tow you out.

The Brazeau ATV Club has a Facebook page…. Try that angle, as you’ll need at least as big or bigger iron to yard your stuck unit out.

Find someone with a portable capstan winch, a couple hundred feet of rope, and a couple pulley blocks.
11,000 lb will get it out

Not necessarily... 2 quads with good 4000 - 5000 lb winches, a "snatch block" or pulley for each, and a good anchor/tree strap for the quads should be sufficient for any SxS...
My guess is the initial quads were just winching without being anchored. Most guys don't pack enough recovery gear, takes up too much beer-cooler space...

Any luck? Try to get some traction plates in front if you can so you climb up on top rather than pulled into the roots of the muskeg. Assuming it's skeg....
Is your machine running? Have a winch? Are you running out of pulling power, or are you not close to good anchors?
If you have (probably not) good strong trees or power poles it can help winching higher to lift you out of the hole.
I use long lifting straps to wrap several trees at once sometimes individually to distribute the load when I have to pull myself out with little skeg trees and "bush".
If you're relying on smaller quad winches you might have to double them both up and use snatch blocks as mentioned.
With a heavy sxs, I could see having to anchor the quads. If you can't strap the backs of them to anything or get something in front, you might have to partially bury both of them. Spin the back wheels down then get the front tires in those holes, and might have to dig down again a bit. Make sure you do it where they can reach to pull themselves out using you as an anchor again....

It starts just NE of the Brazeau Dam and heads west. It connects to the FTR just south of the Pembina Forks Campground.

UFA Farm Lumber 2" x" 12" 16 footers
If you can get some rough sawn boards, the wider the better, you will have alot better success.
You may need 4 laid side by side and pushed under the tires to get things started.
I left a bunch many years ago in the bush were we go for moose but never needed them.
They are relatively cheap so you won't cry if they sink and you decide to leave them in the skeg.
Difference is over corduroy brush laid down, is you can stand on the 2 x 12s which is very nice.

Many many years ago a certain Cladio Ongaro was driving with me in the dark on an old roadbed near Meekwap Lake. I could see the ruts getting deeper and deeper, and I clearly remember saying we should stop.
I also clearly remember Claudio yelling "Don't worry, its a 4 x 4!!!!".
A few hours later we had enough brush in the ruts that the Argo was able to pull the F 150 up enough to start grabbing the brush and getting clearance for the truck to back out of there.

An hour - that's just getting started  Barely stuck if that's all it takes to give in.
Lots of good tips above and hopefully some of them worked and you're out. A person can learn a lot about themselves / their machine and some good ole ingenuity getting unstuck from these AB mud / skeg holes.
Be safe and don't get too rammy / jerky with things as that is when the situation goes from bad to worse.

Crazy world we live in, I am willing to drive 2 hours to get my trailer, equipment and machine , drive 4-1/2 hours to pull him out and then 2-1/2 hours back home. I must be getting old.... I just don't understand people

That's a heck of an offer, it used to be pretty commonplace but not anymore unfortunately. I agree with you, if he was able to get into a location with a SXS and got stuck, there would be no issues with an Argo on tracks getting in there. Combine that with experience and it would likely be easy peasy to help him out.
