Default 7mm-08

Hi Guys:
What are your thoughts and or recommendations on hunting with a 7mm-08. I hear they are a great calibre. Just would like to hear some results in the field. Thanks.

Wonderful cartridge, with a 140 grain bullet it will harvest anything in Alberta

Ive shot and killed lots with all sorts of calibers big and small and my favorite is the 7mm-08 with 139 barnes lrx in a superlite weight rifle.

140’s at 2750-2800, what’s not to like.

My kids have taken deer and moose with their 7-08’s and I’ve take a few deer with mine as well.

Performance is exactly like the 7x57, and its reputation is solid on every continent.

We have taken moose and numerous deer with ours. I have 2. One for the wife, and one for the teens.

My grandson just got his first deer with his grandmas 708. If I wasn’t shooting a 270 win I would have a 708. Great cartridge

I just picked up a Ruger American Gen 2. What brand of ammo are you guys happy with. Was looking at the Federal Fusion.

I have owned two rifles in 7mm-08, I killed moose and deer with them. It's a nice low recoil cartridge suitable for big game out to medium ranges.

Been a big fan of the 7-08 round since '84. Since Barnes dropped the 120 TTSX about 20 years ago, I've been killing everything from coyotes to elk with them. I developed a load with 139 LRXs for
a moose hunt this year, not that
the 120s wouldnt have worked. Unfortunately, I didn't see a bull
worth punching my tag.
7-08 is a dream to load for. And
chambered in an ultralight, like a
Montana, is a tough combo to beat.

Give Barnes 120 TTSX and American Whitetail with 139 Interlocks a try. I would be very surprised if one or the other, (possibly both), don't shoot very well.

Own two, 145 Gr. Speer Sp. Best choice in my opinion.

I'm new to the 7mm-08, but so far I'm loving it for myself and my two kids. Much more user friendly than the 7mm Rem Mag.

Anyone using the Hornady Precision Hunter with the 150gr ELDX?

I've got two Tikka T3's, and I've been planning to set them up identically, centered on this factory load. It's more expensive than the Hornady Whitetail with the 139gr Interlock, but based on my research of the bullet itself and comparing ballistics charts, this seems to be the winner to me. This would be my "Do All" load for everything from Antelope to Elk.

Thoughts???

Love mine and have used this cartridge successfully for years on both deer and moose. I shoot Federal Premium ammunition with 140 grain Nosler partitions.

150gr ELDX is all I shoot. I've taken probably 4 bears, 1 elk, 1 moose and perhaps 6-7 deer with it. Out of an Xbolt.
Great caliber.

7mm-08 is a great round. I have harvested a few deer with mine and 140gr accubonds. I have switched back to a cup and core bullet since the bonded bullet is not necessary with muzzle velocities of 2800 fps.

I may have to try the barnes lrx, it seems to be the go to for a lot of people.

Great cartridge. Heavy hitter, low recoil, short action. Wife has killed many critters with hers. Although it’s an Ackley Improved. I’d probably get another for myself but safe a bit congested right now. If someone would buy my 6.5x55. 🤔

Handloaded 120 ttsx's pushing out at 2915fps have worked for me on elk and deer.
And lots of deer using 139 gr Ballistic tips and SST's.
Only gun I use now.

Default 7-08

139gr SST @ 2800fps will make a bigger hole going in and out then a 308 165gr Speer BTSP @ 2600fps. If they run it certainly isn’t going far that’s for sure.
So easy to load for as well.

I picked up a left hand 7-08 here on the buy&sell and it groups fantastic and low recoil. I have not shot any game with it yet, but if it does what everybody says it does it will be my only rifle and will sell my left hand Ruger MK11 stainless with salt&pepper laminate .
