What Happened To The Bighorn Backcountry Park Proposal

I was just wondering if there has been any further action on the development of this area leading up to the election or since the election?
I'm assuming it's dead in the water.

I'm not sure wear it stands in the process but, it should of died on the order paper due to the election.

Conservation Alberta is still pushing the agenda since some trials are all ready blocked off,,, the new GOA will be looking at some of the ideas put forward under recommendations from the folks with boots on the ground...

Fingers crossed,,, but most likely the rules will change,,, all good no matter what the loooooong term plan is...

Purhaps there will be some positives and negatives along the way.

I hope they revisit the Livingston PLZ area and make it a bit more user friendly.
Now they have too many people jammed into small areas. The limited quad trails have been so over used that they have become dangerous.
For example if you try to ride on the Atlas road to get around a dangerous area for us older riders then you could get a fine for riding on the road.
Before the new zone guidelines came out it was no problem to ride on the Atlas to get around bad or boggy areas.
I know many people are against the side by sides and quads but for a lot of family riders I see no problem.

After decades of work on it, I can only hope its still got a future. Not like the west country is going to heal without protection. Bull trout are in worse shape than ever, and many rivers need restoration.
But dont worry about funding, with the proposed new fee on recreation vehicles. I'm sure you will love getting hit with higher fees for registering your RVs.

Would have been better off investing efforts into organizing hands on stream restoration project instead of wasting decades of work into this park

Likely the fish and waterways would have benefited from it more than the park itself

Yup all the bridges that were installed over all the creek crossings in the castle were and are really hard on the trout. Why should registration fees be higher for rec vehicles, should we have higher registration fees for all drunks and pot heads that drive, or maybe higher registration fees for all the tree huggers that drive and are causing pollution damage to the environment. Your a real piece of work you should give it a rest!

Actually the UCP government stated in their platform the $30 per year per atv/utv fee when renewing registration.

Bridges in the Atlas road area are installed but people still drive thru the creeks. They have tried big logs to block creek access but people just pull them out of the way.

After Tuesday, get in touch with your MLA and request a meeting. Then write formal letters to them, copying the new environment minister, and Jason Nixon. He was instrumental in organizing the opposition to bighorn.. he can help in suggesting reasonable use regarding ohv use and random camping within the new UCP government.....

That plan as proposed currently should go down in flames. Then water dumped on it, then burned again, then flooded.

Enforce existing laws. Hire CO's from the fines of that enforcement.
