Mcgregor whitefish

I usually fish Sylvan lake for whites because it's closer to home, but decided to give Mcgregor a go because that one friend keeps bragging for a long time about how big the whites are in Mcgregor and Travers reservoir!

He wasn't joking, I fished around the red-circle area and got 4 similar size whites,3 small walleyes, 4 jacks, not sure how big these whitefish can grow in there but that one in the picture(4.2lbs) is my personal best for whites, crazy fights! oh if you catch a big one with a wireworm and maybe a zero-size Mepps attached to it...that's probably mine!! tight lines, enjoy your summer.

if you would like to catch big whites try pigeon lake . they can go over 10 lbs.

dont go boat. looking google earth best i can go with since there is no long rock wall is...the mouth where river comes in. popular spot for shore fisherman for walleyes. im thinking of going up there fish the outside before it starts river with float and wire worms. do i have a chance at a whitefish?

Yeah, McGregor has some huge whites. I saw 3.5kg pulled out from under ice by my friend. Did you fish from boat? How was the launch? Did they finally fix it?

wow I didn't know that, here I thought these 4 lb'er are huge... comparing to Sylvan lake whites that is! Will give it a go next time, thanks!

yeah, they fixed the north end boat launch! it's smooth in and out compared to couple weeks ago.

Do you put any bait on the wire worm or just drop it down and let it suspend under a bobber?

I make hooks with ruby paste, looks more like bloodworm and it seems to work well for me. I tip it with small piece of earthworm usually.
