Default Lots of lead flying........

AKRON, Ohio — The eight Ohio police officers who fired scores of shots that killed Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, after a car and foot chase last year are back on active duty, officials said.
Akron Capt. Michael Miller, in a statement, cited a state investigation and an Ohio grand jury’s decision against indicting any officers in the June 2022 shooting death of Walker. As a result, he said, “all eight officers are back on full-time, active duty.”
Miller also said the department’s internal probe of the shooting is going through a final legal review and is expected to be released at the end of November.
Police said officers tried to pull over Walker’s car for minor equipment violations and that he failed to stop and then fired a shot from the vehicle 40 seconds into the pursuit.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said the state’s investigation found that Walker then jumped out of his still-moving car, ran from police and ignored commands to stop and show his hands. Some of the officers first used Tasers to try and stop Walker, but he reached toward his waistband and raised a hand as officers were chasing, Yost said.
The officers, not knowing that Walker had left his gun in the car, believed he was going to fire again, Yost said.
In April, a Summit County grand jury declined to indict the eight officers, who fired a total of 94 shots in just under seven seconds, hitting Walker 46 times. The officers, whose identities haven’t been released, were put on leave following the shooting and then reinstated to desk duty in October 2022.

Actually 46 hits out of 94 shots is a much higher hit ratio than I would expect from our police.

I have watched the RCMP practise/qualify, and most are not proficient.

Such a small demographic to pass judgement on the entire force. Would be similar to someone experiencing a poaching incident and judging our passion based on this experience.

Over multiple ranges and a few RCMP I actually know some can shoot some really suck. I tease my buddies brother in law (he is RCMP)that as long as the criminal stays still he is safe lol

It all comes down to the effort they put in and the ones who don’t have a passion for firearms often do suck. Every officer I have met that is proficient with a firearm is because they enjoy hunting or target shooting as a pass time. But that doesn’t always play true because one of the worst shots I hunted with was an RCMP. There is a few that did the tactical shooting competitions with my Uncle that were pretty good but again it’s because they pursued it as a hobby

Now that said I have met plenty of hunters who are far from stellar shots too. There is definitely times I wish a hunters had to pass a proficiency test to thin out the bad ones

Exactly, the officers that actually have an interest in shooting, tend to do quite well, the ones that only shoot , because they have to qualify, often do poorly. I have watched RCMP, CPS, Brinks, F&W ,and the people from Canada Border Services shoot, at multiple ranges, over multiple years, and the trend seems to be the same for all groups.
And yes, I have seen my share of hunters that are totally incompent with rifles and shotguns as well, again, the ones that shoot in the offseason, because they have an interest in shooting, tend to be much more competent. The big difference, is that they hunt for sport, not because it is their occupation.

It is hard for most humans to shoot a junky pistol with a 14lb trigger.

EPS going to g17/9mm has certainly improved proficiency.

You will take any opportunity to run down the RCMP….period.

I have known many soldiers that suck at drills, shooting etc but man can they get **** done when it matters.

Like it or not, people that only shoot, because they have to qualify , are always going to be sub standard. And , if they not only can't hit a paper target with no stress, and and they actually shoot the overhead range baffles, do you really believe that their marksmanship will improve when they are excited or stressed.

Ok ok don’t laugh but i worked for brinks a long time ago. I couldn’t believe how many people couldn’t shoot to save there lives. I realized that i better have my head on a shivel to protect myself. Ever year we would have to take a shooting test i loved that time of year. At least 2 out of the group would pull the trigger on the 12 gauge and drop the gun in the dirt.🤯🤯

Discussions evolve like it or not. I have seen my fair share of officers shoot... they have the worst saftey training ever. I had to get mad at them for having closed bolts and loaded mags in there guns behind the firing line....trying to teach my 7 year old daughter saftey at the range and these idiot officers are playing John wick with there AR 15s.
Could not hit crap. Then got mad at me because there on duty...I said your training on active duty....wth. also if you have to deal with rcmp and have firearms good luck they don't know the laws at all. Last 13 officers my buddys and I have had conversation with 12 of them still thought Fac were required for firearm ownership....non had a clue on minimum safe transport or storage... but go ahead and defend the liberal brown shirts there here to help.

Due to issues with rules/safety at our local range, outside of private range rentals to law enforcement, the rules are now the same for every person shooting as a member, or as a guest. That means that no banned firearms may be present on the property, and all members must shoot from the firing line. We have also had to raise our rental rates to cover damages to the facility, during previous rentals, and we now inspect the range for damage, before and after rentals, and renters will be billed for damages.

Story sounds like the Ohio police officers version of the Brits mad minute in WW1 turning the perp into a wiffle ball.
