Exclamation 6.5x55 SE 127gr. Barnes LRX Powders & Velocities

Hi all,

I've been looking into a firearms and ballistics for a few years now and I've arrived here:

I've messed around with GRT (Gordon's Reloading Tool) and I am curious if anyone has got a 6.5mm 127gr. Barnes LRX that breaks 3000fps from a 6.5x55 Swede?

-22" barrel, *modern action*
-Limited at 65,000psi peak pressure
-~49gr. Ramshot Hunter or alternatives you can recommend.
-Brass recommendations for those pressures?
-Freebore recommendations, etc.

Is this feasible? I know I could go 270 WIN, but I don't want to if you know what I mean.

If anyone has any experience involving a 22" barrel, the 6.5x55SE, and the 127gr. Barnes LRX, I'd really appreciate some validation of concept and powder recommendations before I financially go chasing the dream.

Many thanks,

Northern

If you are just chasing velocity then go for the 270.

Slowly work your way up to 50 grs of H4831, in a modern action you should be in the vicinity of 3000 fps. I've never been that hi with my Swedish Mausers.

In a Tikka I use 48gr of RE22 with a Rem 91/2 primer, 3.15" COL. Gave me just on 2900fps.

Same load with 130gr Accubond was just over 2800fps.

I should re-chrono that 17LRX load, as the 2900fps is faster than I expected.

Accuracy is excellent.

3000fps is optimistic, 2850fps, is about the max that I saw with R-22 ,and the 129gr ABLR, and that was with a 23.5" barrel.
