Wife’s cousin came down for the weekend. Has never shot a whitetail. He made a bad shot on this guy. I knew the shot he made wasn’t fatal and the deer would eventually just bed down and probably succumb to coyotes. So we took off after the 3 legged tracks and blood sign. We ended up having to track roughly 1.5 miles into some dense bush before we caught up to him. Or at lease I thought. I ended up shooting another buck through the trees thinking I was finishing off the cousins. We ended up catching up with the wounded buck as well and finishing it off.

Surprised when I put the tape on mine. Roughly 164”

My girlfriends brother got a nice little meat buck last night. It is his 3rd animal (cow elk and mule doe are the other 2) and his first buck.

We sat in this spot in the middle of a field in the morning and a doe came out. He was facing the other way while I had a shot at the doe. I whispered “Deer” to him and he got so excited he stood up and tried to get turned around to take a shot at her, but she had seen him and took off back down the cutline.

We hiked around another area all afternoon and didn’t see a thing, so we decided to come back to the same spot to sit the evening to see if something else would come by.

As we pulled up to a cutline in the pickup he saw a lone deer just cross the cutline and enter into the parcel of trees we were going to watch. We hustled into our spot and sat for an hour before he saw the buck on the tree line. I ranged it at 165yds and he let his 30-06 with his 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip handloads fire.

He said the shot felt good shooting off my tripod so we went to where he was and there wasn’t a drop of blood or hair. Luckily there was an inch of fresh snow so we managed to follow the footsteps 30yds into the trees and there he was.

A quick gut and drag to the truck and we some some nice meat on the hooks.

Slept in, but went for a stroll anyway and had this guy wander out for me couple days ago. Nice 100 yard shot.
