This is the abbreviation of the procedure. It is actually called an esophagogastroduodenoscopy. I have read up on the procedure and what is involved and what they are looking at. Just wondering if anyone on here has had it done? Any concerns, discomfort? I have this coming up on the morning of the 8th.

Friend of mine had it done a year ago. They were a little rough on him and damaged his vocal cords and he lost his voice for quite some time. He is currently having rehab therapy to try and get back to normal.

I had it done... They give you the option of being awake but I have a nasty gag reflex and opted to be put under. It was easy enough. Had a bit of a sore throat for a few days after but otherwise zero issues.

I have had it done twice, both times they put me under, no issues at all.
Good luck!

I had it done twice, once I was sedated and the other time I wasn't.

Being sedated was much better, although I was awake enough to know what was going on but it was definitely a plus to not be constantly dry heaving during the procedure...

The last time I had it done, they did a colonoscopy during the same session. I don't think they appreciated my sense of humor when I told them that, to clean it off again before they stuck it down my thoat.

That is hilarious. Made me laugh at a time I needed it.

As for the other responses, I did read the prep part they sent in an email and they did mention a mild sedative which I would prefer. I am going into this with a positive attitude. Thanks for all the support for someone who is clueless to this procedure. As for the sore throat, gives me an excuse for not talking (which some might like, LOL) and eating popsicles and ice cream.

Last may with potential gallstones. No issues, sprayed to freeze my throat and had short term catheter to put me to sleep. Recall coming out of it with scope still in my throat but no issues. Walked out under my own power less than an hour after. May be different procedure but i dont recognize the acronym you reference

I had a gastroscopy done in 2021. After checking my heart records they opted for a mild sedation. Given a mild sedative and drank a concoction that froze me from my mouth down. They took biopsies of my esophagus, duodenum and stomach but all came back negative. They did discover an ulcer in my esophagus....still take meds for it. Very painless procedure for me....good luck!

Ha Ha, I sure hope he meant to say intravenous and not Catheter for this procedure.
I've had a Catheter before and that is not what it was used for.

When I had mine they were hours behind schedule and I was the last surgery of the day, no anesthesia they just sprayed my throat and stuffed it down, I gagged and choked and didn't have a very fun time but as soon as they pulled it out I was fine and went and had my first meal in a day or more and enjoyed it.

I am thinking from where my pain is situated they are starting at the wrong end . But I'm no doctor. I have talked to my family physician (whom I've had for over 25 yrs) extensively about this. I guess I have to take the tests that I can get when they are available. Gotta start somewhere. Monday morning 7am.
