When Hodgdon announced that they were introducing IMR 8208 XBR I knew that it was the powder that I was looking for to use in my 20 EXTREME wildcat. It is another EXTREME powder from ADI in Australia. Not only was it the exact burning rate and density that I needed the reports were that it was the most temperature stable of the EXTREME powders.

I had Rayn'er Shine Gunworks put in an order for some early in the new year. I got some this spring when their first order cane in. I think that it may be available at P&D as they said they had some on order.

I tested some new loads yesterday and compared them to some loads I had already developed. I shot a 300 yard group with the Sierra 39 BK ahead of 21.4 grains of IMR 8208 XBR which pushes this bullet to 3500 fps. Here are the targets I shot yesterday.

These are 100M (5 shot) groups from a 308....working up a load with 8208. Shot well, but when I went to reload the brass, found the primer pockets a bit loose...so I guess the loads were a little on the hot side. No other signs of pressure, so that was a surprise. Never tried any loads under the ones you see.

I picked up 2 lbs from P&D's a while back for my 204's. Accuracy was okay but not quite as tight as RL-10X.

Target was shot at 200 yards, squares on the target are half inch. Load is on the target, using 30 grain Bergers, in a 17 Fireball. Good velocity, very good accuracy and not pressure problems. Have used it in 223 and 308 with equally good results. The thing I found the most amazing is I could shoot 20 shot strings over the Chronograph and the MAX deviation in FPS ran at 4 or 5, depending on caliber and load. I have never had a powder that whoud produce sinlge digit SDs before, I didn't even know my Chrony couldmeasure that tight.

It is too slow for the 221 Fireball, the 22 Hornet and the 20 Vartarg, but Hogdon lists loads for over 40 cartridges. So far I think this is a great powder that will allow a guy one powder for a very wide range of cartridges. Well worth trying out.
